Merch booths: Did the early live BB shows ever have them?

When did BB merch booths first appear at shows? Was there such as thing as a snail-mail mailing list (pre-email obviously), t-shirts, records, bumper stickers, or anything like that which got lugged around from show to show in the early days? Or was the merch booth something that bands didn't really do in that era? And if so, who ran the merch booths?
As a side question, merch booth or not, when did the first BB t-shirts or sweaters become available for sale? I know of the Smiley Smile t-shirt (or was it a sweater?) that was available via mail order in '67, not sure of any earlier than that...

I saw BB merch for sale at my first concert in 1965. However, it was a multi-act show, so there was stuff for other artists as well.

Very cool! Any recollections on what was sold?

The only thing I specifically remember seeing was a program book for sale -- and I didn't have enough money on me to buy one.
