Just wondering. For those of you that might have this gem, what is your favorite or best sounding version of Landlocked.

Soniclovenoize's version is pretty excellent. Fantastic mixes of Good Time and Big Sur 4/4.

I have about 6 or 7 Landlocked CD's. My favorite Landlocked is the first one I picked up in the early 80's on vinyl, Brother Records HNG-10. Excellent liner notes written by Zezozoze Zadfrack Glutz.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

I agree, an excellent effort. The Landlocked recordings are terrific and just show what a great band the Beach Boys were when you consider how much stuff they recorded that was not deemed worthy of an official release, when most of it was brilliant.

Why wasn't that version of Big Sur chosen for Holland anyway? One of Mike's best lead vocals, a lovely song.

You folks have me so beat with all of your CD boots.  The only one I have is the vinyl version that Mikie is talking about, on Brother HNG - 10.  I think it was 1983.  To trick the record police, it doesn't say Beach Boys anywhere - that logo is all a fan needed.  Brian + Mike + Carl + Dennis + Al on the front, notice no Bruce even though "Tears in the Morning" is on the record.  On the label:  Carl & The Passions.
I picked up the Brother SMiLE that day too, but passed on the Made In USA (BR -409).  After I heard how good they sounded, I went back to grab it too - but it was gone.  I never saw any of the three again until Mr. Mustachio (Freddie) put up a photo on a Collector Thread last year.

I agree Mikie. That is the same one that I have. Love the author's name. LOL

There was a LANDLOCKED CD that came out in 2002. Its funny that the allmusic site reviewed it:

Where to begin with this jewel. Part of some anonymous bootlegger's excellent digipack series, complete with mock Capitol-style artwork, Landlocked: The Unreleased 1970 Album and More is an exquisite 19-song assembly of the material intended for the unissued record, with some superb bonus tracks added. There are at least a half-dozen songs on this CD that easily rate as some of the best work that the group did during the '70s, and three of those could qualify as some of their most beautiful and affecting work ever. The sound is excellent throughout, the orchestral backing (right down to the kettle drums) on "When Girls Get Together" pumping out of the speakers in dazzling fidelity, and "Loop de Loop" (which sounds like a charming, not-too-distant cousin of "Heroes and Villains"), the ornate "San Miguel," the breezy and charming "I Just Got My Pay," and the ebullient "Soulful Old Man Sunshine" (which could pass for a Motown cut and is worth the price of the CD by itself) are all a match for the quality on the 2001 vintage Capitol remasterings of the group's authorized late-'60s albums. This disc also contains "The Monterey Saga," an early, working version of a piece that eventually evolved into "California Saga" from Holland -- the latter is quite good in its own right, even as the group tries to sing lyrics that were written from a historical/fantasy context (with heavy use of synthesizer), and offers a glimpse into the group's songwriting and production process. "Big Sur" is among the prettiest songs the group ever recorded. There is no "Susie Cincinnati," "Til I Die," or "Lookin' at Tomorrow," but as bonus tracks listeners get the unissued studio version of "We Got Love" (which is a lot more impressive than the live cut that was eventually released) and early versions of "Sail on Sailor," "Awake," and "My Solution," plus a live rendition of Dennis Wilson's "Only With You" from 1972 (sung by Carl Wilson). All of that and the band's delightful "Fourth of July" -- a thoroughly dazzling expression of musical dexterity and patriotism (that would have seemed totally out of place in 1970) -- and the unmixed backing track on "Sail on Sailor," in perfect fidelity, makes this disc as essential to any Beach Boys collection as the expanded version of Pet Sounds or the most coherent of the Smile bootlegs, and an ideal gift as well.

Yeah, I've seen that Capitol-esque CD... I dunno what album THEY had, but it sure wasn't "Landlocked"!

Several years back, I picked up the Dumb Angel Rarities version in a local record store, and I'm perfectly fine with that one.  (Shame the same label dropped the ball so badly on Adult Child though...)

These are the two I have (plus the Soniclovenoize mix); the top one is the best; the second has a lot of other tracks from all over the place. Good stuff, but not 'Landlocked.' Note the quotation marks.

Yeah, I think Dumb Angel DA003 "Landlocked and Rarities Vol. 2" is one of the best versions sonically up to that point.

I'm pretty sure all the CDs of 'Landlocked', 'Adult Child', etc. were all sourced from the original bootleg LPs from the mid-'80s ... so orig. copies would be the 'best'. Any digi-pseudo mastering job would come down to personal preference I suppose.
