KEEPIN' THE SUMMER ALIVE
It's by far the best song remaining, poor production and all.
Santa Ana Winds is a good song poorly realised - the bootleg version is vastly superior.
I just don't get Goin' On. It's no classic to my ears.
The lyrics on the bootleg version scream `placeholder` as another poster has said.

"Goin' On" IS a classic. Looks like it will win. But does not get my vote as Best.Even though Carl did improve his soulful vocal live, the studio version is still the Best song on this album. Carl wanted The Beach Boys to be his Rock-n-Roll Band. This song works on so many levels. Rock On Carl!! My vote goes to: "Keepin' The Summer Alive"

The lyrics on the bootleg version scream `placeholder` as another poster has said. At least they fit the melody, unlike the awkward overly-wordy lyrics on the album version. And at least the chorus on the bootleg version has a bit of life too it and hasn't been over-produced to the point of being utterly sterile.

I'd vote for Santa Ana Winds if it weren't for Mike's nasally vocal. A real shame, a great song. Would love to hear the chorus vocals from the earlier version in their full glory on the KTSA take.

In direct contrast to round#27... round#28 is probably the biggest shutout voting since Darlin' was voted SURVIVOR of Wild Honey. Keepin' the Summer Alive is the twenty-fourth studio album by American rock band The Beach Boys, released on March 24, 1980 on Brother, Caribou and CBS Records. Produced by band member Bruce Johnston, following aborted attempts to have Brian Wilson return to his former role, the album is the last to feature Dennis Wilson, who would subsequently drown in December 1983. 2 smilers enjoyed the Santa's Wind. 10 smilers attempted to Keep the Summer Alive, but ultimately failed. THE WINNER of the 28th round of BEACH BOYS SURVIVOR with 28 votes is.... Goin' OnRound#1 - School Day (Ring! Ring! Goes the Bell) March 28 Round#2 - Endless Harmony March 30 Round#3 - Sunshine April 1 Round#4 - When Girls Get Together April 3 Round#5 - Some of Your Love April 5 Round#6 - Oh Darlin' April 7 Round#7 - Livin' with a Heartache April 9 Round#8 - Santa Ana Winds April 11 Round#8 - Keepin' the Summer AliveDon't forget that we still have two voting rounds left in BBSurvivor#26!!!!!

I like it, but I don't get why it's so popular among fans either, or why it was picked as the single. It's just a little too artificially intense for me.

"Goin' On" - Never great, usually acceptable to good depending on the mood. "Santa Ana Winds" is the album's best track but the production does suffer and the shrill backing vocals less than stellar. Come to think of it KTSA is full of shrill backgrounds.
The critical view of the time - for some - was that KTSA was a stronger effort than L.A. It was not. L.A. is soooo close to being a good album with some stellar stuff and a few less than great moments. KTSA will always be hopelessly mediocre.

My take is Goin' On is a fun song with a sub par production, which is good enough for a winner on this album. There are no slam dunk performances here, which is why I have it as the third worst album behind only Summer in Paradise and Stars and Stripes.

Obviously pedantry has no place on this board but shouldn't the dreamer be the one who gets awakened, not the one who does the awakening?

Santa Ana Winds would be the definite winner if not for this overrated slice of tune. It's not just about artificial intensity, except for Brian's "Goin' o-on", I don't see anything sincere in the song. Rather the group attempting to rejuvenate the old friendly self but fails. Even title track has more edge to it. And now it's going on to the Ultimate Survivors round
