Listening to the Gershwin album and LOS today.  Seems to me, that by the time of the Gershwin album, Taylor's voice had become  a very pleasing and important part of the vocal mix, integral to the sound of the Brian Wilson band.  I miss that voice in the recordings and performances since that time.   While Jeffrey is essential to the sound, the addition of Taylor gave the vocal blend a unique sound, beyond just recapturing some semblance of the patented Beach Boy vocal blend that the all male lineup produces.

I've always thought having girls in the vocal mix added depth as well as "top end" to the harmonies - think Time to Be Alone with the Rovells in the mix.  Plus, and this is a little off topic, many of Brian's leads in the early days are perfectly suited to a woman's voice - which was one reason Beach Boys Family and Friends was so great with Carnie and Wendy were so great.

I really miss her vocals. I Wanna Be Around and I Gotta Crush On You really stand out in my mind as songs that worked so well with her voice.

Had they given her any leads I wonder if she would've been more inclined to stay with the band.

God must’ve smiled the day Brian Wilson was born!

"ragegasm" - /rāj • ga-zəm/ : a logical mental response produced when your favorite band becomes remotely associated with the bro-country genre.

Ever want to hear some Beach Boys songs mashed up together like The Beatles' 'LOVE' album? Check out my mix!

I was under the impression from things some posters have said here before that the decision to remove her from the touring band was not her choice. Does Marilyn have something against Taylor? Maybe she things Brian was going to change "She Says that She Needs Me" to "Taylor She Needs Me?"

Do you mean Melinda?  I don't think Marilyn is involved in any touring decisions Smiley

She was fantastic on Smile and TLOS

I still don't know why she left the touring group, people for some reason never posted the exact reason on here, just hints.

Here's how I hear it.  Brian's voice isn't what it was, of course... and he had a phenomenal voice of course in the 60's... so it always sounded to me, like they replaced Brian's beautiful voice with Jeff, and Taylor, because her female vocal mixed or doubled with Jeff's sounds similar to Brian's from the 60's.  Then you TRIPLE it with Brian's voice, and it gives it the same accent and timbre as his original.

So she kind of 'sweetened' the blend and when doubled or mixed in the harmony I think it helps balance out Brian's rougher vocal.  She's a little prettier (in both ways) than the BB's sounded but Brian's a little rougher so it all mixes out and helps make them sound so fucking authentic.

Then of course later as you were mentioning she was mixed more in her own space, or even given duets.

Either way, what's not to like?  Always liked everything.  EVERYTHING about her.

OK.  It's official.  I am getting old and repeating myself.     Or maybe everything Beach Boys has already been covered and discussed here and everyone involved is just rehashing old discussions in one form or another.  But that is no reason for anyone to stop posting.  Aren't we all still having a good time here?

Oh, by the way, do any of you miss Taylor Mills in Brian's band?  I think she was just GREAT!
