the correct perspective

That man or woman wrote a lot of interesting facts about Brian Wilson or the Beach Boys in BBaustralia.
I well remember having read about those pre beach Boys songs by Brian and Brian mixing Smile in may 1967.
I still have those fanzines. I really still believe that Brian mix one Smile before recording Smiley Smile.
Smile was too much perfection even beyond Pet Sounds;
Brian needed to relax after those 1966/early 67 looking for an impossible Graal .
so we got Smiley and its natural music.

A hoax. He mixed fact with fiction and presented himself as someone who knew the group personally from the very beginning. Fun to read, but horridly biased and obviously false. Some people here know who he was. I'm not among them. He lost all possible credibility with the Remember the Zoo article.

True. Some of us knew who he was. Some of us still do.

This may be a stupid question, but who is "he?"

Are we discussing the author behind the "Remember The Zoo" article as collected in Kingsley Abbott's Back To The Beach collection ?

Would anyone suffer if his identity was revealed 20 years after? I say reveal who he is.

Is the culprit an occasional denizen of this board who has/had a SMiLE dedicated website?

Did this zoo involve an aardvaark, a gorilla and a deer?

Are we discussing the author behind the "Remember The Zoo" article as collected in Kingsley Abbott's Back To The Beach collection ?
Nope. That author was I, (Dwight Cavanagh) and I first read the erroneous "Zoo" material in the liner notes to the 1991 Lost and Found CD (see
http://albumlinernotes.com/Lost___Found___61-_62_.html
to read exactly where this information is culled from). Contrary to what is written, I am Australian not New Zealander. The article from the book was originally written as an article in BBA regarding the recording of Pet Sounds. I am not, nor was I ever "The Correct Perspective".
The one good thing from that whole SNAFU is that I learned to verify any facts via three independant sources prior to publishing it as fact. Or to correctly credit the source of such claims. "Johnny Come-lately alleges that "Remember the Zoo? is..." is preferable to "Remember the Zoo is..." when such revolutionary "facts" are concerned.

Mooger I bought the Smile File many moons ago in Tower Records in Glasgow. It came with a poster and fireman's helmet! The manager of the store was a big Beach Boys fan and had a great selection of fanzines and stuff for sale. Happy days! I didn't realise that you are Dwight Cavanagh.

I remember the fire helmets (still have 1 or 2 myself), but never saw the poster. The "Mooger" handle comes from the days when clever names were all the rage, and I haven't bother going to my real name. These days though I have reverted to my birth surname of "Steven-Boniecki" rather than that of my Step-Dad. Also, I have moved into writing about space exploration rather than music.

I loved 'the correct perspective'. I always looked for his (or her) contribution first in each new issue. From memory those contributions supposedly arrived via a Californian postmarked letter with no return address.
