Author Topic: List of different Live in London covers/The Fabulous Beach Boys  (Read 4671 times)

I was at a record fair today, and I scored with Smiley Smile, The M.I.U. Album (I know, it's crap. But it's the only late-70's BB's album I didn't have on Vinyl), Made In The USA compilation and Going Public by Bruce Johnston. Plus two other artists.
Anyway, I noticed that I found the Live in London album several times, all with different covers! Why is there so many different version of this album, Is there a complete list of different Live in London covers, and which one is the definitive version to get?
Finally, I seem to notice that I can't find Pet Sounds on vinyl at all. Yet I often see a compilation called The Fabulous Beach Boys, which oddly has every single song from Pet Sounds on that. Could anyone get more info on this strange album?

There are quite a few Live In London LP variations, some of which I've collected through the years:

Australia 1970

Australia

UK 1970

France 1972

Germany

A Google images search will reveal more variations  Grin

As to why so many, possibly to keep us collectors busy. The definitive version: all of them  LOL

The Fabulous Beach Boys is an Australian re-release of Pet Sounds, possibly from the early seventies.

"Quit screaming and start singing from your hearts, huh?" Murry Wilson, March 1965.

Interesting. I've definitely seen the first two, and possibly the fourth.
As for The Fabulous Beach Boys, i don't know what they were thinking. The cover is horrible, and I wouldn't be surprised if it sold horribly. They should have sticked with the original cover and title

i really dislike group photos without Brian... there were a lot during this period.
but this one is pretty cool. Carl looks like a total bad ass. Mike looks like he has a mystery to solve.

"How did I end up looking the least cool of the bunch?"

Same with Dennis, total badass!
Somehow, they don't look American there, they look European for some reason

There are three more Live In London covers that I know of.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

The UK sleeve shown above (with Blondie Chaplin up front), I think was in fact a reissue on the MFP label, thats was also released (with the same cover) in South Africa (and probably other countries as well).

As for other sleeve variations

Germany

Malaysia / Hong Kong

UK & The Netherlands

The Netherlands (both fold out carton, and normal sleeve, I think)

and of course the U.S.

and there's a first issue from South Arica as well, called  Live at the London Palladium. I don't have a clear picture, but I recently posted a picture of some of my new puchases, which also shows the South African LiL sleeve (2nd row from the right, way below)

Rule of thumb, think BEFORE you post. And THINK how it may affect someone else's feelings.

Check out the Beach Boys Starline website, the place for pictures of many countries Beach Boys releases on 45.

I see tons of the UK MFP copy about for pittance. If anyone wants one [and I won't find one now] I can be the mailman.

But yeah. I'd love that Aussie Coventry Cathedral one, esp. since I'm at Uni in Cov at the moment :D

They've obviously since put the railings up. They're in most of the windows too, mainly the ones with drops the other side. Maybe it's to stop beach boys fans re-enactign the shot!
