Fun stuff! I got the book last week and have been savoring it since. It makes me fantasize about boxed sets of 70s concerts, I admit.

I agree.  I am pretty certain that we will eventually have the opportunity to get "on-demand" live CDs from Brother-though it may be 5 years till it happens!!  Still-at least there is some cool live stuff on the new box

I bet Mike likes the book as the stage was always his forte. Actually I wonder how many Beach Boys books they do read? I remember Brian saying on Howard Stern in 1988 that Gaines got a lot wrong.

Yeah-I don't know if he knows it exists but I am sure his people are aware of it.  For the record-Al made a video clip promoting it, which was nice, and David gave us a long interview and provided some pics.  I never talked to Brian or Mike but Jon has interviewed both of them (as well as Dennis, Al and Bruce) and met them at a number of social occasions.

I agree this was a fine effort and it showed some courage to play County Fair followed by 2 versions of I Do!

Thanks for the kudos, guys! As I had mentioned to David and Ian before we started the interviews, I get requests for the Beach Boys all the time on The Vintage Rock & Pop Shop but it soon became apparent that a lot of listeners had never heard of Pet Sounds, Smile or anything that came out after 1965. This was my first attempt to sort of "introduce" that material to them or at least give them a sense that there's more to the band than striped shirts, woodys and "hang 10" (although that's certainly who they are too). I knew if I asked Mike about "Fun Fun Fun" and "Good Vibrations" that the audience would know those songs and get a kick out of hearing about them, but I also felt it was important to have Mike talk about "Only With You", knowing that it would be the first time they'd ever heard the song. I think we made some converts based on reactions I got over the phone. 

...and man, Ian, the phones lit up like crazy when I gave the book out!
