I guess we've all accepted that Brian, Al and David will never work with Mike and Bruce again. Over in Kinksland, we know that the Davies brothers will never work together again. So why not have a BB's/Kinks hybrid band. Which of the current BB's bands - Mike's BB's, or BAD, do you think would most benefit from the talents of writer extraordinaire/singer/rhythm guitarist Ray Davies? Which band needs an explosive lead guitarist/harmony singer/occasional lead vocalist, Dave Davies? And where does Mick Avory fit into things? (maybe drumming on Wild Honey so Cowsill can stand center stage?)

I think Ray Davies would fit in with Brian, Al, and Dave while The Kast Off Kinks (Mick Avory, Jim Rodford, Ian Gibbons) would make a good supporting act for the touring Beach Boys.

What exactly is the problem with Ray+ Dave.? I heard a number of years ago Dave had a stroke.. Is that true.?  If they got back together there would be a market for their archives. I"d love to see some old concerts on DVD myself..  GREAT Band.!

Ray and Dave are brothers, that is the problem with them. Maybe they would've been better buddies if they'd had a cousin to fight with.

Dave did have a stroke, which has made recent talk of a reunion tougher. I think Ray finally came around to it, but Dave got sick soon after, and IIRC is still not in fabulous shape.

I guess we've all accepted that Brian, Al and David will never work with Mike and Bruce again.

I don't know if that's a good assumption to make, actually. For the next year or three, perhaps. But I would never say never with these guys.

You know what would be something? BAD working together with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Just the five of them jamming in the studio, without any backing musicians. Brian on keys, Al and David on guitars, Paul on bass and Ringo on drums. I'd love to hear what would come out of that...

The Davies bros make The Wilsons seem like the brothers Gibb by comparison - things have turned really ugly between them over the last couple of decades. I could never imagine Ray working with any of the BB's because he is such a control freak (also he isn't a Beach Boys fan!). I reckon Dave could work well with Al. He has made music far beyond The Kinks template BTW.

Dave has apparently said recently the Kinks might do something together. He's not in good shape in terms of singing and playing at the same time but with Ray singing it wouldn't be an issue.

The Davies brothers are both Beach Boys fans, especially Dave. Ray would have too much ego to want to work with either group. Dave might choose either. He might like working with Brian but see more of an opportunity with Mike since there are fewer guitarists to compete with. After all, Brian's band has both Jeff and David.

Fun fact: Austrailia by The Kinks has a Surfin' USA reference!

'We'll surf, like they do in the USA...' followed by a very BB backing vocal

I saw Ray a couple of years back and, you know, here's this guy who's written all these great - okay, good - songs and his performance and disregard for the audience was so offhand. Much as I still like his music, he came across as real twat.

Maybe you just saw him on a bad night.  I saw him on his "Kinks Choral" tour and he came off as very friendly.

I guess we've all accepted that Brian, Al and David will never work with Mike and Bruce again.

Not all of us.  That is still pretty much an assumption.  Al Jardine in fact in his latest missive still left open room in his mind at least for Mike Love to return to the fold.  Whether Mike Love himself, is ever motivated monetarily or otherwise to do so is obviously the unknown quantity.  I don't think these guys are the type to hold long grudges.  There are bruised egos and feelings right now for sure but lets see where we are at in three-five years.  Personally speaking, in my opinion the great thing working against the boys right now is Father Time.  Brian Wilson may have recently stated that he feels like he's twenty years old again when he's in the studio creating music but the reality is he and the rest of the boys are in their seventies right now and there aren't going to be many opportunities left from that standpoint for them to do something on the level of the C50.  As much as I'd like to see one more reunion from the boys I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be seeing them performing aside the doo-wop groups from the fifties on PBS.  Not that there is anything wrong with those groups mind you, just not the way I would like to see The Beach Boys go out.

Dave Davies is into yoga and meditation, so he might get along well with Mike Love. He sure was a party animal back in the day, though. Probably would've gotten along great with Dennis. Ray is the introverted type like Brian - but unlike Brian, Ray comes out of his shell once those stage lights come on.

What would a setlist for a Beach Boys/Kinks tour look like? Do you think they'd stick to the hits (Good Vibrations/You Really Got Me) or toss in some rarities (Shangri-La/ Marcella), or do a little of both? That would be interesting to see.

Never work with them again? I have no interest in debating but your comment doesn't seem accurate.

Maybe there'd be some rewrites of past hits. California Girls on a Sunny Afternoon; You Really Got Good Vibrations; I Get Around All Day (and All of the Night); Tired of Waiting for the Little Girl I Once Knew; Lola versus Surfer Girl; Come Dancing to Kokomo.
