Please excuse the plug....but if you have not seen  a real Smile Back Cover, I have one on eBay you can look at...thanks! It  was used to authenticate the Capitol art work for the 2011 Smile Sessions Box. Brian and several other  people saw it. This is a 1966 cover with the date of receipt 12-6-66. It also has markup by the art department  @ Capitol in red pencil. A piece of Smile history.

Peter, I dearly wish I had the resources! Many thanks for the heads up  - fascinating to see the cover after reading so much about it in the past. This piece of history deserves a caring home - hope your sale's a success.

Drooling...  Just give me 6 months of not eating, getting utilities shut off, not showering, losing my car, getting evicted, etc. and I might have enough saved up for it.

Good luck Peter!  In my single days I would have been tempted to make you an offer on it, but I've got a son heading to college in three years...

Fascinating item, Peter. Thanks for sharing the post. A great piece of Beach Boys' memorabilia and music history.  I'm sure someone here will be happy to provide it a good (second) home.

From the looks of it, it's very nice!  But as I already have the other copy, it will have to be someone else buying it.....

Is your copy marked up with red pencil or have dates and names on it too?  PM me if you want.

Not marked up with red pencil, but old and age stained with Red stampings

There are a couple of things I don't understand and have to wonder if they would have really used this cover

1) Why isnt Brian in the photo?

2) I thought Bruce was not allowed on the album covers until Wild Honey due to some contract?

Hey Little Tomboy is creepy. Banging women by the pool is fun and conjures up warm summer thoughts a Beach Boys song should.

Re 2): not on the front cover, but on the back was allowed. Hence his picture(s) on Pet Sounds.

Rule of thumb, think BEFORE you post. And THINK how it may affect someone else's feelings.

Check out the Beach Boys Starline website, the place for pictures of many countries Beach Boys releases on 45.

The photos of the group wearing the checked shirts were taken at a gig from which Brian was absent.  That's why his presence is minimal in the Smile booklet, as well.

Obviously, though, you make a fair point.  Why not use some other group shot that included Brian?

Who knows?  Probably for the same reason that Al was left off the front cover of 'Summer Days.'   Maybe Capitol just wanted photos of 'the group,' and didn't really care who was who.

In any case, Brian is the only Beach Boy mentioned by name on the back cover (i.e., 'Produced by Brian Wilson').

On the back of the Party album too, but less noticable.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!
