A question in two parts...

In the booklet for the 1993 box set I'm pretty sure it stated that the songs from movies like It's a Beautiful Day and Problem Child were soon to be released on a rarities album. Obviously this didn't happen so does anyone remember if reasons were given as to why this was cancelled?

Also, as Capitol are always desperate to put out compilations, does anyone reckon that a Beach Boys at the movies CD could be a possibility in the future? A lot of the rarest non-unreleased songs like Problem Child, Lady Lynda (movie version), Happy Endings, Make it Big (movie mix) etc. are probably not strong enough to put out on their own but might sell if coupled with songs used in famous movies.

I am surprised this hasn't been done on iTunes.  Really no effort to do it, no physical product, just put it on iTunes for the hardcore fans like us.  Still Crusin' is there

"Monkeys Uncle" and a couple more from the 60's beach movies as well. of course we can't forget about "Kokomo" and (maybe) "Karen" (although not a Movie song but a tv song, maybe as a bonus track)

Talking Heads did that and it was awesome.

Thinking of just this very subject the other day when I found this long list:

I had looked at that list before but somehow had failed to notice until now that it says "Steamboat" was on the soundtrack of a 1979 gay porno film.  Which leads me to think that this is one IMDB list that is halfway comprehensive.

I was going to say that makes me really want to see that movie, but...

On our way through this "backstage" maze, Bruce joined up with the group and said hello, singing "It Never Rains in Southern California" and joking with some of the older ladies. I'm not sure if they knew he was a Beach Boy or simply an enthusiastic elderly gay gentleman.

They also left Five Summer Stories off the list - Surfs Up, Trader, Sail On Sailor, California, etc.

As relative obscurities like Feel Flows and Ol' Man River were used in successful movies, it could certainly be a more interesting comp than the usual.

Maybe some of these movie songs are owned by different record labels though?

Can't remember exactly but weren't those songs used without record company approval and were later replaced by music from the band 'Honk'?
Kinda all before my time.

Seem to recall a lot of surf films were using major artists music without permission.

No, not the case. Honk was also part of the soundtrack. Macgillivray Freeman did everything by the book. Macgillivary is a dot the i's and cross the t's Hollywood guy.
