The acetates were, I believe, auditioned by someone who knew what they were doing on behalf of BRI, and apparently nothing of interest was discovered.

OK, but do we know that the "audition" included the acetates in question?  Bicyclerider, for one, states above that although "acetates in Durrie's possession were auditioned by Capitol and nothing new was found," the acetates discussed in this thread "were discovered later."

And of course, we have Andy's posts stating that in fact something very significant was found--and it's currently unreleased and unbooted.

Anyone here remember "Barnyard Billy" and if so, are we still quite certain we want to make Brian the final authority on these questions?

On October 1, 2012 Alan Boyd said that "Barnyard" was to be about this character 'Barnyard Billy' that loved his chickens, and that it was to be a part of "Heroes And Villains".

Bumping an old post, quoting a poster who probably hasn't logged on in years (what else is new) but I gotta ask: is this accurate? I want to know what makes Alan Boyd say so. Is there more in the vaults than we've heard, has he had private conversations with Brian or is he just speculating based on that throwaway line in the IJWMFTT doc?

I think Brian just remembered there was a song called Barnyard on SMiLE and threw out a quick lyric on the cuff as an improvised example of how SMiLE was just fragments. I don't give that lyric anymore weight than that personally, although I have no personal stake in the matter and would love to know the truth. It just seems weird that the song would radically shift perspective from first to third person is all, and no other SMiLE song has a named cartoony character like a "Barnyard Billy" (is there a "Firehouse Freddy" or "Childlike Charlie" in there somewhere?).
