Yeah, he's been Nesmith's regular bass player for years. He played with him on his UK tour last year.

And this is of interest to Beach Boys fans because....? I'm familiar with his Nez connection....I must've missed something.

He played with the BBs in the late 70s/early 80s.

Ed Carter. He was on guitar at the time. There were a few shuffles around in the band in 79/80, with Billy Hinsche being out of the band for a while, Carly Munoz leaving and so forth. Chemay only played with the band live for a very short period of time, and I suspect (though this is pure conjecture) that they needed someone to cover Billy's vocal parts (Chemay is a decent singer) and so moved Ed Carter from bass to guitar and got Chemay in.

Ed Carter was primarily a bass player -- and I think pretty much solely a bass player from 1981 onwards -- but he played quite a lot of guitar in the studio and occasionally on stage.

Ed Carter can play a good bass, but he can also play rhythm and lead when called upon. Hear that lead guitar in the middle of Rhonda on the "In Concert" album? That's Steady Eddie. They didn't give him that name for nothin'.

Hey Steve, Nesmith will be playing in my neck o' the woods very soon. You think it's a good show to see? The Monkees played in the Bay Area a couple of times already and I skipped it because Nesmith wasn't with them. I mean, guys like Fogerty are just fine to see solo but I can't see going to see Nesmith without the Monkees. It seems like a link in the chain is missing.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Saw Nez with the Monkees in November and his voice is in absolute great shape. Belted out stuff like "Sunny Girlfriend" and "You Just May Be The One". They dropped the key for "What Am I Doin' Hangin' Round", but still sounded good. Of course, a solo Nesmith show is certainly likely to concentrate on....solo Nesmith. But, I'd reccomend seeing him. He's a bonafide legend.

See, that's the deal. More than likely Nesmith will play his solo stuff, which I'm not familiar with at all. I'd rather hear the Monkees material, even non-hits/album cuts. I'm sure the musicianship will be great and he'll put on a good show, but it helps to be familiar with the songs going in....

Hey, remember that correction fluid called "White-out" that they use to use in the manual typewriter days? You know who invented it and made millions off of it?

Saw Nez live last year (and saw the Monkees the year before -- you really missed out by not seeing them, they did a great show). Pretty much everything was his earliest solo stuff, along with a few Monkees-era tunes. Ones he did that were originally recorded by the Monkees (though many of them were only released as bonus tracks, so you may not know them) -- Papa Gene's Blues, Propinquity, Different Drum, Some Of Shelly's Blues, Tapioca Tundra.

You should definitely see him if you get the chance. His voice has held up as well as Al Jardine's has.

In the 90's Eddie Carter would play lead guitar in concert on "Summer in Paradise" while Billy Hinsche would take over the bass

Not only did Joe Chemay play bass on the Beach Boys 1980 tour, he played bass on the MIU album, L.A. Light album, and Keepin' The Summer alive album. Also POB and Goin' Public and he sang on The Wall with a couple of The Boys. Also played on quite a few Nesmith recordings.

It appears Nez is coming to Seattle, but no venue listed yet - and I wonder how much the tickets are gonna be. The last time the 3kees came up here, 2011, the cheap seats were $70, and that is way out of my price range. If he can keep it down in the neighborhood of $25-$35 then I will go.
