Yeah - "Resurrection" itself doesn't make too much effort to distinguish itself from "Across the Universe". The excuse I've read is that they were recording in Abbey Road around the same time as the Beatles were doing the
Get Back
sessions and
Abbey Road
, so they might have overheard a few things. I think "World of You" and "Train" are great cuts though. And I haven't heard much Left Banke or Nazz, so it's probably no wonder I like this lot.
I don't know anything about that (and can't find anything) - you mean Tom Hartman?

I'm not sure who Tom Hartman is. The lead singer? The one I'm talking about posts as TheAerovons, and posted two messages. One about a coming EP. Another that Billy passed away and Mike had a stroke. He does not say who he is. Since the posts were a year ago, maybe the EP did come out. I was joking that he would be in his 70's. I'd never heard it until you posted. Saying someone sounds like the bands I mentioned is a compliment, not a put down.
If you have not checked out Nazz or the Left Banke. You should. Right away. If you like this, you will love them. Nazz modeled themselves after the Yardbirds on their early material, and to an extent the Left Banke and Laura Nyro for their second long-player (including the stuff that ended up on
Nazz III
). Both bands worshipped at the feet of the Beatles. I also could have thrown in a Zombies reference into the influences of the Left Banke.

btw Judd, "Across the Universe" was recorded in February 1968. Only overdubs and remixing after that. It was in contention for the b-side of "Lady Madonna" - the single they would leave for release while they went to India. George won the vote in the end, putting "The Inner Light" out into the world. This is my fifth favorite Beatles 45.
If the Aerovons were recording at Abbey Road they could have heard "Across the Universe" easily enough. The Beatles were approachable. And acetates were surely floating around. Otherwise the number didn't come out until December 1969, and if I understand this right, the Aerovons' album is 1969. So they would have to have heard it before that. What month was it released?

Ah, that's right.
Thanks for the recommendations. I'll certainly check out Nazz at some point soon, beginning to get into Rundgren.

Nazz modeled themselves after the Yardbirds? I don't/didn't ever hear that. Great little band too. I appreciate their slower, jazzier Hello It's Me. In fact I knew that version first. Something newer you might enjoy? The Vinyl Kings. 2 GREAT albums likely still available through CD Baby.
Been listening to lots of Joe Bonamassa lately. Absolutely excellent guitarist...electric or accoustic. Not a bad vocalist either. First hit the stages back when he was 12 and accompanying BB King. Well thought of by many of the guitar 'heroes'. And...he's prolific.

The best thing she has ever done, easily. Consistently exciting and top tier. Brilliant! Drake and Frank Ocean feature along with a hearty selection of the best producers working today including The-Dream, Noah "40" Shebib, Timbaland, Pharrell and on and on. The deluxe edition makes me want to finally buy the video version of the album. I can't wait to see what she does next. The only thing wrong with the deluxe thing is that it leaves off The Weeknd's Drunk In Love remix!
Mine featuring Drake

Superpower featuring Frank Ocean
Flawless Remix featuring Nicki Minaj

Since when this infinite thread became unpopular? Is it because MugginsXO didn't long post here? halblaineisgood? Whoever? That's silly. It's like you all simultaneously stopped listening to any music. I'm glad that Mr. Garneau keeps it alive & doesn't care at all if others "follow the trend" or not. Well done!

Thanks!
Today I've been enjoying (for the first time) The Velvet Underground's 'Squeeze'. It's really not a bad album, although lots of VU fans apparently hate it.

Captain Sensible, whom I recently lent my Gibson SG Standard to for 6 east coast shows. He's one of the only true talents from the whole 'punk' thing in my opinion.
