John Lennon - God. In case of songs like this, I stop thinking about whether I agree or not with his thoughts and just am amazed at how powerfully they are expressed. Damn.

Wasn't mad about the ASAP single but this is selling me pretty good. Opener is good.

This is a song that entirely slipped my mind for years but a real classic. A love letter to slow jams.
Personal - Craig David
Anybody who can name all of the references to other great R&B tracks and legends gets a smooth cake.

The weakest of his albums but still has a good few superior tracks. The
title track
is vicious smooth and the vocoder/talkbox outro is dead on it.
Slow It Down
was the most joyful song of 2013 and my favourite of last year. A pity the album isn't quite on the level of these songs.

Today I have been enjoying:
Flying Lotus - You're Dead!
Nice mixture of good things. The Kendrick track is tops.
Thundercat - Apocalypse
and
The Golden Age of Apocalypse
I liked these as well, which are a similar kind of mash of genres and generally pleasing sounds.
Marsha Ambrosius - Friends & Lovers
This is by far my favourite of this morning though. Used to be in a duo called Floetry which wrote for Michael Jackson and did good work. Really strong material all the way through.

Interesting. I've heard a few people say that. I think I might need to give it another listen...

Just now, was listening to Scott Walker's new album Soused, made in collaboration with Sunn 0))) the Seattle drone-metal band. After his previous record Bisch Bosch, which was more of a bizarre comedy album than a piece of music, this is somewhat more conservative sounding....although only relatively speaking. It's kind of like what would have happened if Scott, back in 1972, had decided that he'd try to compete with Black Sabbath and Deep Purple instead of doing what he actually did, which was to record two sorta country albums.

The album holds together as a piece better than any of his others I think. Make Up Bag/Sex Intelligent/Yamaha are forever pleasing to me. Yamaha in particular is one of the great R&B songs of the last decade. So very Prince.

Not only one of Waits's best, but one of the '80s' best. Great, great, great album.

Immediately after Swordfishtrombones, I listened to...
...the first Waits album I ever bought, and I finally decided that it is slightly better than Swordfishtrombones.
