Animals That Swim - Workshy (1994)

Featuring a great song about Roy Orbison ("Roy"), a Beach Boys reference in "Vic" and generally great mid-90s indie music with good lyrics.

That album gives me the creeps because of knowing the dark history behind it.

This mix, in my general attempt to keep up with the myriad f*cktonne of pop of the present day.

All this is confirming is that I really want to go out and have a dance. But some of it is really cool, like the Gang Colours track, Yuna, and Wiley - that especially kicks off, love him.

i agree with you Smiley it's one of my favorites.

McCartney's songs from Abbey Road are largely abscent from any Beatles compilations but they're some of my faves, especially Oh! Darling, You Never Give Me Your Money and She Came In Through The Bathroom Window.

i remembered the first time i heard "oh darling" & "she came in through the bathroom window" i was like ok these two are in my top 10 :] and you never give me your money became one of the songs i later appreciated especially since there are so many changes throughout the song...the outro is my favorite part of the song...1234567

The 'legend' is that he wanted his voice to have that rough quality that a voice has when you just rolled out of bed.  So he'd go to the studio an hour before everybody else, and record a new vocal, until he got that one, every morning for a couple weeks.

Don't know if it's true or not.

As far as I know, that's what really happenend. I say that because I read it again in some (official) liner notes or something, not lang ago.

"Oh! Darling" is one of my all-time favourite Fab4 recordings as well.
There was a time when it was basically the only song I had with me all the time, and I listened to it like 20-30 times a day. That song plus whiskey is awesome for the heartsickness. Well, "awesome".

According to Mark Lewisohn's Beatles Recording Sessions book ... It's true. According to one engineer quoted in the book, McCartney was heard to say at one of the sessions, something like: "Man, five years ago I could have done this in a flash..."

Finally reunited with my record player after a few weeks and a whole bunch of new records, so it's been, all on vinyl...

Spiritualized's new single
The Fleetwoods - Come Softly To Me
Ike & Tina Turner - River Deep, Mountain High
The Jesus & Mary Chain - Some Candy Talking EP
Gene Clark's No Other
Bill Withers - Just As I am
and now this beautiful ambient record called The Magic Place by Julianna Barwick - constructed mostly out of vocal loops, it's so pretty.

Have Bert Jansch's LA Turnaround and Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra's first album cued up after this. A good day, methinks.  Grin

Wilson Phillips new CD "Dedicated"  Undecided

Wanted to like it so much (loved the Shadows & Light album) but was really disappointed with it. Only the a cappella version of "Good Vibes" took it above the mediocre ...
