Glen Campbell documentary

A new Glen Campbell documentary coming on BBC. It will be interesting to see what content regarding the Beach Boys sneaks into this. The producers contacted me early in the process of making this film, and I warned them if they were intending to be accurate that they not accept Glen's often repeated anecdotes that he played guitar on the BB's Fun Fun Fun and Good Vibrations...neither of which he is actually on. I did give the BBC a list of great BB's tracks that Glen actually is on, but who knows if they were paying attention. I also suggested they not refer to him as a former member of the Beach Boys as that claim is also factually incorrect, but that he was a member of the touring group at a crucial time and was asked to be an official BB but declined. I think they didn't like being told the facts... which to them were less interesting than the myth.

Hopefully it will touch on "Guess I'm Dumb". There are at least two surviving TV performances of Glen miming the track in 1965 on kinescope - Shindig! and Shivaree are the shows. Maybe they were able to license a portion...

I'd venture that since Jon has warned them off the really high interest BBs, that GID won't even get a mention; they'll not that he toured with them briefly, played on some of their sessions, and move on to the rest of his story. At one hour there's a whole lot of other stuff to get in!
Heck, CK will probably get 1/2 the show ranting about Geln getting proper credits for imaginiary sessions...

Again, though it's not stated that Glen played on Good Vibrations, the insinuation or suggestion that he did was in the video doc because a long clip of Good Vibrations is played. They didn't use the "American Band" clip! They touched on "Guess I'm Dumb", which is cool. It flopped because it sounded like The Beach Boys? Ha Ha! Good Wrecking Crew stils footage.
This is going to be a great documentary.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Too bad I'd seen all of the studio photos before. Doesn't seem to be the most accurate thing, but whatever.
Always nice to be reminded of Sinatra's rampant homophobia.

They sure were able to license a lot of good music.
I'm pretty sure the BBC has a blanket agreement with PRS and can access a sh*tload of music without paying for individual songs. They pay a lump sum and save mountains of cash.
This stuff needs to get renegotiated and cleared for video releases, which leads to famous songs in sitcoms and whatnot replaced with soundalike trash or goofy midi junk because it's too expensive to license.

I
did not
know Glen was on Daydream Believer.
Edit: Ugh oh...Carol Kaye...Ugh Oh...I didn't know Glen "played" on Surfin' U.S.A.
He played the exact same part on both those songs.

Yeah, he was doubling Carol Kaye
(For the record, the musicians on Daydream Believer were Peter Tork on piano, Mike Nesmith on electric guitar, Bill Martin on acoustic guitar, Chip Douglas on bass and Eddie Hoh on drums. I think Micky Dolenz and/or Harry Nilsson might also have added some extra acoustic guitar, but I don't have my copy of Sandoval's book to hand to check. The claims about session player involvement on Monkees records are even more exaggerated than on Beach Boys ones).
