Just now read this post on PSML. Sad to hear, but nice video:
>> [PSML] RIP Andy Williams
Passed Tuesday night, aged 84. Quite liked his singing. Liked his autobiography,
too. Liked his first Christmas LP.
And then, there's this bit of intergenerational strangeness. File it alongside
your Frank-Elvis and Bing-Bowie summits.

I associate Andy's voice with my own wonderful childhood Christmas memories. I always looked forward to his holiday specials. RIP Andy.

For me, it was mostly Andy Williams (and Doris Day) records that I heard a lot in my house while growing up. My Mom always bought all of Andy's records since the mid 50's, even before Moon River.
Among many good records of his that I like a LOT are "Lonely Street", his cover of Charlie Gracie's "Butterfly", "Can't Get Use To Losing You", and "The Hawaiian Wedding Song."
One of the best things of Andy's that I loved were the songs he sang at his friend Robert F. Kennedy's funeral. "Ave Maria" and "Battle Hymm Of The Republic". He vowed never to sing Ave Maria again after that. Search for them - they're really beautiful.
His version of "God Only Knows" is great too!

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

That's sad. R.I.P. Andy

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Ranger -
One of the all-time best crooners - an American legend. Right up there next to Sinatra, Crosby, Martin, Como, and Bennett as far as I'm concerned.
Never liked to talk about Claudine and Spider though. But he sure stood by her side after that happened.....

Very sad day today. I grew up listening to his Christmas album and it brings back a lot of great memories. This one in particular was always a favorite.
