I was thinking about how Brian's voice could add or make a better song out of some of the songs he did in the 70s/80s with or without his gruff voice:
tracks such as:

A Day in the Life of a Tree
I'll Bet He's Nice (Denny's vocals are fine, but I'd love to hear BW re-produce this)
Solar System
Someone to Love
That Same Old Song
Hotter
Lazy Lizzy
Let's Do it Again
Almost Summer
Oh Darling
Love Ya
Everybody Wants to Live
Rings
Water Builds Up
Love is a Woman
Walkin On Water
Concert Tonight
Wont'cha Come Out Tonight
Boogies Back in Town
I'm Begging You Please
When Girls Get Together
Guess I'm Dumb
Lines
Do You Have Any Regrets

I know I'm dreaming, but has anyone else thought of some tracks that his current voice would sound great on?

He could have the best album of his career with some of the odds and ends that haven't been released/or have only been on compilations. Have him and his band do "Still I Dream Of It", 'Soulful Old Man Sunshine", "Stevie", etc.

you guys are crazy. It's almost universally agreed when Brian redoes a song that the original was far better. you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

no way...these originals (the rarities that is) have really bad sound quality, I'dlove hearing a new production

I don't really see the point of re-recording anything that was basically finished back in the day. Maybe if something was only demoed then that's okay, but I don't see the point in redoing something that was done but not released. Like what's the point in doing a new version of a song nobody cares about?

On the other hand, if they wanna take another shot at an old classic, then I'm okay with that. The new "Do It Again" for instance was cool as a nice bonus. But for something as lackluster as "Someone to Love", it's pointless. Or even when Brian and his band did part of "Can't Wait Too Long", all it made me wanna do was listen to the old version.

Me too. Actually, (what some people call) Brian's current "old man" voice could  be used to great effect on a new version.

Out of all of these, I'd prefer to hear "Solar System" in Brian's current voice.  I'd like to see him try to sing it seriously... with intonation, and expressiveness in his voice like he does on his best stuff now... like "Someone to Watch Over Me", or "Can You Feel The Love Tonight", or "Colors of the Wind", or "Pacific Coast Hwy".  I know the song's not really serious, but I'd like to hear him do a well-sung version of it.

And honestly, I know there's a lot of re-recorded stuff that Brian's done that folks don't enjoy but when it comes down to it, I think all the Sweet Insanity material on GIOMH was better when redone. Yeah, there's parts of the SI material that I like, for instance, I love the trumpet solo on DOn't Let her Know She's an Angel and Let's Get Together's accordian by Weird Al is better than the Waltz all together. But then again, there's that dogdy re-recorded Spirit of Rock and Roll I don't enjoy as much...Brian shoulda stuck Dylan and that track on GIOMH and kept the guest artist thing going on.

"Still I Dream Of It" needs to close a new Beach Boys record, if it ever happens. It's not especially appropriate for Brian to sing at this age, granted, and I'm sure his wife would have none of him singing about wanting to "find a girl" if she didn't want Brian to sing the name "Sherry", but damn. The Adult/Child studio version is interesting but does no justice to the song. The demo is nice, but lacking in other ways.

Sherry? as in Sherry She Needs Me? Or was Sherry sung on Still I dream of it, I'm confused!

Har har, sorry Sad Yes, I was referring to the story (according to others) about Melinda's insistence on a lyrical change for "Sherry She Needs Me" before Brian could re-record it due to her not liking the name because Brian dated a girl named Sherry in high school, about 40 years before the Imagination re-recording of much tamer "She Says That She Needs Me".

good call...I'm dying to hear the re-made Terri She Needs Me that he did with Russ Titelman for BW88...wonder if it's an 80s-like mix or stuck to the original?

I've always gotten the feeling that Brian doesn't care much to look backwards...but it's an intriguing idea.

What made you think that aside from the great number of tracks on That's Why God Made The Radio, That Lucky Old Sun, Imagination, Gettin' In Over My Head, Imagination, Brian Wilson '88, etc. etc. that predate the year the albums were released, often times by decades, as well as BWPS as a whole?

I would love to see a lot of the unreleased Adult/Child era stuff get released next.  Obviously if he's willing to go back to Sweet Insanity to flesh out Getting In Over My Head, he can look to the mid to late 70s for the "next great rock and roll album."

Weird that Melinda would want that changed, given that Sherry She Needs Me is about Brian leaving Sherry for someone else (which is very much part of how Brian has been through his life, I guess he wanted to love more than just one person and felt constrained by it).

Happier for Brian to keep pumping out fresh stuff… leave sonic improvements of archive stuff to Messrs Linett & Boyd.  Proven formula.

^ This.

It would be unspeakably awful. Without wanting to be overly negative, I don't have time for ANY of his recordings past the '88 lp (with an honourable mention for Orange Crate Art), and that's because they all sound like they have all been done by committee and polished into bland submission.

Most of the stuff you've mentioned there, has a certain spark- shouty, uninhibited vocals, wacky synth bass...whatever, which is incredibly important to me, as a listener. I really don't need to hear them blandified. If anything, I'd rather he put his 'Love You' hat on and redid all the most promising tracks from his solo career/twgmtr.
