I've always wondered about the "Pet Sounds promo film". I've linked what I think is the complete version below. Usually it is chopped up or a portion is used for one song (I've seen it with "I Just Wasn't....), but this forms a full story. It's hard to make sense of it unless you're in an altered state, but it almost plays out like a miniature silent film with Mike as the stranger having trouble in the woods, and the Wilson Brothers not accepting him as one of them, and at the end Al shows him some kindness. Probably reading too much into it! I wonder, did Brian help create the story line? It seems very avant-garde. Who bankrolled it, and was it ever shown in its' complete form on televison? I'd imagine it was made for the UK market.

Thanks for the link. It's not even that complete on the Pet Sounds Audio DVD. How come that?

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I saw that video a while ago and my first reaction was: What is going on here?  Huh

Still don't understand the video but it is an interesting watch.

I love it. Shows that the band didn't take themselves nearly as seriously as many of their fans.

Brian's sense of humor in this is kind of a foreshadow, considering the next project was about humor.

Well, still more seriously than goin' the "we're still the biggest surf group in the country"-way. I like the fact that they don't do any image-acting but just go with what feels and comes naturally. Imagine Pet Sounds would've come out in '77 and you can bet that the promovideo was full of surfers, bikinis and beaches.

I love this goofy stuff, but man -- Derek Taylor was no Richard Lester!
