The new 50th Anniversary Beach Boys album, “That’s Why God Made the Radio,” debuted at #3 on the Billboard chart — the band’s best ever debut and a milestone in their chart-topping history.  On the very last day of sessions at Ocean Way, I was privileged to be the only photographer on hand.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

That shot of Brian alone at the huuuuuuuuge board is quietly striking.  He looks like a cork on the ocean...

Wow, you're a lucky guy, Rocker! That must've been great honor to be there with The Beach Boys and be allowed to take shots of them! I mostly like the one where Brian sits at the grand piano & gives commands to other bandmates what they need to do. Generally, this reminds me of one mid-60s studio photo of The BBs where they were shot almost in the same way.
Shortly speaking, thanks for these modern-day pictures of our heroes! Much appreciated!

Oh, no, that's not my posting, my site. The posted text in my first post is a quote from the author/photographer. I probably should've written it out as a quote instead of putting it in italic letters. Sorry.

Hey, Capitol, how about putting up Brian with a surfboard? That would be a whole new twist! Grin

They said they love it and are going to use it next year on the next compilation "Surf, Surf, Surf: 10 Surfin' greats by the Surfing Beach Boys.. SURF!!", however the bonus tracks are going to be Brian's demo of "California Feelin'" and "Wouldn't it be Nice to Live Again" which are going to be iTunes exclusives for everyone who purchases their entire back catalog in the correct order within the first 20 seconds of the compilation being released.

They are also in talks with Brian about traveling back to the 60's in a replica of Emmet Brown's Delorian to prevent himself from giving 'Surf City' to Jan and Dean so they have an extra song to put on there. Brian is said to be unkeen on the idea  LOL.
