To all of the pros who frequent the board:

Recently, my band did a large outdoor gig and unbeknownst to me, the sound engineer made a cassette recording from the soundboard. After we found this out, again unbeknownst to me, our drummer brought the tape to a studio to have it transferred to CD for posterity.

The recording sounds sped up. Not the tempos, mind you, they seem the same, but the vocals are higher pitched. In my analog naivete, when you speed up a tape, tempo and pitch go up accordingly. But it seems to me, in the digital age, perhaps the pitch went up while the tempos remained the same.

Question 1 - am I nuts?

Question 2 - can I remedy this? The only program I have available currently is Adobe Audition. Not sure if this would help me. Thoughts??

answer 1...no

Answer 2,,, probably happened during recording with the cassette deck.
Try a slight vari-speed in digital effects catagory. Your ear will have to be the judge, or hold a guitar while the cut is playing, to make sure the tone is right. If the guitar (keyboard) is in tune with what is being played after the vari-speed process, then you arte either close, or right on the mark...good luck...
