Tyler has great taste. He is also a huge fan of the Shangri-Las and Yardbirds, and sang backing vocals on the second Left Banke album.

Which begs the question: how come Aerosmith are so awful?

They are only awful to pop pussi.es.

Pussi.es eh? Or pussies even. Yeah, well this particular pop kitty loves the Beastie Boys, Nirvana and the Pixies as well as the Beach Boys. Aerosmith do suck though.
Walk This Way..Kitty

Not so different than being a Beach Boys fan from 1968-1974 or so. Verbal abuse was nearly expected if you let on that you were a fan. Wink

The Brianista Prayer

Oh Brian
Thou Art In Hawthorne,
Harmonied Be Thy name
Your Kingdom Come,
Your Steak Well Done,
On Stage As It Is In Studio,
Give Us This Day, Our Shortenin' Bread
And Forgive Us Our Bootlegs,
As We Also Have Forgiven Our Wife And Managers,
And Lead Us Not Into Kokomo,
But Deliver Us From Mike Love.
Amen.  ---hypehat

Not to mention the complete paranoia of taking a BB record up to the counter for purchase and feeling that youwere being stared at by the cashier and others in the shop. Embarrassed

Saw them perform live 10 or (15?) years ago.  A great rock concert by an original classic band with all members present and accounted for.  Not half a band with a few remaining members.   A real treat.  The real deal. People forget that this is one very good ROCK BAND, and as with any really good band, must be seen live to fully appreciate.

Smiley Smile has been used as therapy, to mellow out drug addicts in detox.  Coincidence that it's one of Mr. Tyler's favorite albums?  Perhaps not!

As I mentioned on another similar thread at the BW site-Steven Tyler was in a band called Chain Reaction that opened for the Beach Boys at shows in the Westchester, NY area on two occasions (July 66 and April 67) so there is also that connection....The band actually won the honor of opening for the BBs in 66 by winning a "battle of the bands" competition run by their school.  Must have been a thrill.  Kind of an amazing reality about the music business-for many bands the absolute pinnacle of their career was the time they opened for the BBs or the Who or the Stones, etc....So many bands never made it past that to being a big act on their own

Must admit I never listened to Aerosmith, didn't yet get to them. From various interviews & ceremonies Mr. Tyler seems to be very nice human. Though what is the most fascinating is that of all The BBs albums he prefers Smiley Smile. As it is also known from Wiki, Pete Townshend & Robbie Robertson are another famous Smiley Smile fans. Interesting that many musicians like Smiley Smile. I wonder who are other artists-SS fans. Anyway, thanks for the info re Steven Tyler & other little contributions to the thread. Most of it is unfamiliar to me, & other board people too, I suppose.

Well, not SmileySmile but Jim Morrison was a fan of Wild Honey.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
