I LOVE Rio Grande, I really think it could've been on SMilE and fit perfectly, it features lots of references to the "Fire" piece of the Elements, like the intro, and part "C" with the chant.

But... Strangely enough... According to Wikipedia... An earthquake took place the first day of recording on the track?!
Is this true?! If so... WOW I can't believe Brian didn't just flip out right there and leave! Isn't it strange that it is so similar to an album and song with a simmilar situation?!

What do you all think of that?

I think it's a great song.

As for the coincidence, you can find meaning in anything.  If there wouldn't have been an earthquake that day, it would have been THE EXACT DAY the Olsen twins were born or something.

Or the same day Madonna recorded "Rain"... and Brian has Rain all over the song, and Madonna in the bible is Jesus' Mother!   Brian is Jesus Christ!

No I mean, the natural disasters that occurred on both days!

"The river is deep and the river is wide" section gives me chills everytime I hear it.

If BW had recorded Rio Grande here in Yorkshire and there'd been an Earthquake then you could argue that that was spooky. I'm given to understand however that earthquakes aren't too uncommon in California. If he'd recorded Pitter Patter here in Yorkshire and it rained the same day no-one would bat an eyelid.

Given that the Fire thang was more than 20 years previous, I think we can rule out a deliberate pairing for sure!
