Has any Beach Boy ever really been on a Surfin Safari?

Hi all, this might seem like a dumb question to all of ya'll but I'm trying to find out if the Beach Boys (from here on I'll abbreviate by calling simply The Beach Boy) ever gone on a Surfin Safari?
We know about Brian's early Surf Retreat in 61 and of course Michael's Surf Seance of 62. But no evidence has been presented to suggest to this author (me) that any member of the Beach Boy has ever been on a Surfin Safari. If this is the case, where did Michael's lyrics come from? What experience did he draw from?
Also, why is Al's hairline so f***ed?

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Bruce Johnston is a real surfer, but as to whether he's been on a surfari, no idea.

Yes they did go to a surfin' safari.
That was right before they started their own car club.

Al Jardine was once held at gunpoint for three hours as his captors argued over where the forced "surfin' safari" was to begin, but sound policework got him out of that situation and the newspapers didn't think it was "interesting" enough to report on until the famous News Drought of 1979.

Here's the Carolyn Williams thread:
http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php?topic=8507.0
And this is a thread requesting pictures of Bruce with a mustache:
http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,9221.0.html
The first one lasts only 3 pages but the Bruce Mustache thread goes on to 11!

Amongst threads on the Beach Boys forum what defines pointless?
