The press release above tells the story. A Professor Hollinden at Indiana University, who previously has offered courses focusing solely on Hendrix and Zappa (and one about the BBs, Beefheart and the Residents), is marking the 50th this fall with a course devoted completely to the guys. Maybe Mike and Bruce can work in a guest lecture in between gigs at those Ohio River casinos - they're only about a two-hour drive from IU.

What this really calls for, in terms of guest lectures, is one from Scott Totten on the similarities and differences of the BBs and the "Dan's" oeuvre.

The press release also says the prof is in the habit of concluding these rock'n'roll courses with concerts at the Bluebird (a pretty nice club which has operated in Bloomington for decades).  But the BBs call for more than that. Let these students conclude their studies with a good, healthy, bracing Dennis-style streak around campus....followed by a quick "chicken."

I've been to the Bluebird many of times, great times were had there.

A few of the band should make appearances..

The two Scott's, Probyn, Darian. When it comes to understanding Beach Boys music inside out, those guys are kings

I would only take a class about the Beach Boys for an easy A, because I know more than the professor probably does.

That's never a surety for an A, though.

i like those ohio river casinos!  Smiley nice view of the river also.  in fact, my new home sits less than 150 feet from the ohio river.

belterra is a very nice casino. i go there all the time. and the boys have played there at least once. they use to have a guitar of the group framed and mounted on the wall outside the concert room. if one has  a chance to go there do so.  Smiley

I was just thinking....that latterday Leave It To Beaver episode with "Mr. Wilson" in the music room came to mind, and I figure, this prof should just go ahead and round up the ultimate guest lecturer for the final class....
