That's your $1.99 per album Amazon sale, I'd say. Or was it 99 cents? Whatever, that price moves some albums.
Actually, I'd venture to guess that those $1.99 sales actually don't count as a whole sale, same thing with "cut-out bin" CDs. So the fact that even with those maybe not being counted as full sales, they must have sold a sh*t ton.
And seriously this has to be great for Brian and Mike. It must be great artistic validation for Brian, because we know higher sales and the charts positions really do make him happier, or so it seems. And for Mike, imagine how proud he must be that The Beach boys are not just still cruisin' after all these years, but making it big again with a hit album.*
But anyways, I think this bodes well for future releases of all kinds. I know that the box set and hits album were scheduled anyways, but I was still nervous about the box set coming out. And with the way they are doing right now, I don't think Capitol is worried at all. Both
The SMiLE Sessions and
That's Why God Made The Radio have both exceeded expectations, and I'm sure they are probably excited to get some more stuff out there now that they know their is still a large fan base for The Beach Boys. Now hopefully they also decide to issue those Japanese remasters here in America too. And lastly, I hope this guarantees a new studio album. I am excited to see what the guys will put out next, especially with the fact that they seem so focused on being "The Beach Boys" again, rather then just reuniting for a few months. So I think a new studio album might be even better than
TWGMTR, which I think is great.
*I tried to construct a Mike Love worthy sentence with the references and whatnot. Lame, yes I know.
