I've turned a lot of friends onto at least one BBs song, a bonafide deep cut, the monstrously excellent and incredibly underrated (even by fans!) "Celebrate the News". That section towards the end when Brian comes in and it goes drum-march crazy is so f*cking amazing! This song deserves a much wider release than it has received (the "Breakaway" B-side then the Aus/Japan Rarities comp), which surely contributes to its neglect.

It also constantly blows my mind "All I Wanna Do" was recorded in 1969 -- 43 years ago -- because it sounds so incredibly "now", like it could've come out at any point in this last decade. I wish they had recorded more songs like that...

Today! through Holland seem to be pretty hip with the hipsters, and since this is 2012 and hipsters are the cool people now, the cool songs will be on those albums. Though you don't hear them mention the 67-69 material as much.

As much as I like Friends and Love You, they are not hip. Artsy and creative yes, but not hip.

Some of my favorite videos:
1. Dennis singing Never Learn not to Love (tv show)
2. Wild Honey live with Blondie on lead
3. Don't Go Near the Water (in a gazeebo)
4. I Need a Mess of Help
5. Feel Flows live (1977)
6. Pet Sounds promos
7. SMiLE videos

All hip! Now somebody pass me a joint  Cool Guy

I like the ones with a bit (or often a lot  Smiley) of left field in them.

Cool Cool Water
Surf's Up
Don't Talk (Put your head on my shoulder)
Cabinessence
Feel Flows

While I've long known of The Beach Boys, I've only been really learning more about them within the last year or so. My partner was surprised when I asked for some BB CDs for my birthday as she usually hears me listening to Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, or Frank Zappa. Then when I was playing one of the CDs she bought me she was looking at me with a mystified expression and asked "This is the Beach Boys?"

The songs I think of as more or less cool and modern-sounding (alphabetically):
All I Wanna Do
California
Do You Wanna Dance
Feel Flows
Gettin' Hungry
Here She Comes
I Get Around
Island Girl
It's OK
The Letter
Most of PS
Pitter Patter
Sail on, Sailor
Santa Ana Winds
Slip on Through
Solar System
Strange Things Happen
This Whole World
Wild Honey
Wipe Out

That's 20 in total.

Wipe Out is not, by any stretch of the imagination, "cool" or "hip".  Simply because it is rap, does not mean that it is modern or cool.  It's particularly awful rap, I mean, have you listened to those lyrics?
