The footage has to be staged, for one simple reason: the use of pitch correction on this record. You put six guys around a microphone like that, you end up with a single track which you then have to hope is either absolutely perfect from beginning to end, or you just plain aren't going to use it. If five of them were on pitch and the sixth person hit a bum note, you can't use auto-tune or Melodyne or anything like that to fix it, because it would then incorrectly repitch the entire thing, all six voices, which would now make five of them wrong. Since we can clearly hear that some type of pitch correction was used on even Al's whistling (as far as I know we're more or less in agreement about the effect's use on the album, if not in the early tour dates on B-Pain), it's impossible that all six parts were recorded onto a single microphone in one take. This stuff was probably filmed after the album was more or less in the can and the guys were rehearsing the tour. Just bring them from the studio where they're rehearsing to shoot something and lip-sync along with the already completed album, because most people who buy the album won't be digging through the liner notes to see if Dave's name is listed anywhere. Most people don't even realize that Jeff Foskett is an ancillary member, not an "actual" Beach Boy. Same as they don't think about which songs Mike sang versus which ones Carl sang.

Forgive me for being out of it for a minute. What's "B-pain" again?

Great video by the way.  Sure would be cool if we had another "The Making of Keepin' The Summer Alive" documentary for this album. Brian was obviously really engaged for this thing. Wonder if he has an update to his previous statement about the Wondermints being better singers than The Beach Boys!  Grin

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Frackin' A, Bruce! That was really great.
I love BW talking about how good the guys are at doing their jobs. Great stuff.

Very possible it's a lot of staged footage, so you can't really count on any of it being the actual take they used on the record, hence why David is singing in the video but not credited on the CD.

Well there's a bunch of Christian Love on Daybreak, for example, but he's not in the credits, is he ?

Yes he is.

Well why did i read here that the credits only mentions the Boys and Jeff Foskett ? damn you guys.

Why don't you go out and buy the CD? It's really really cheap.

There's many albums i still need to buy that i love, for now i only "like" this album, so i don't feel the need to buy it.

Then I suggest not posting about it. It was only eight dollars this week at Target. Or five bucks on Amazon.

"This video is private." Has someone pulled the plug on it already?

That could have been exactly what happened. Remember that whomever put autotune on the record are probably the same people that thought destroying a song's dynamic range makes it sound better.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Any theories as to why they keep uploading then deleting videos?

I noticed for the official TWGMTR video, it has something like 30 likes & 6 dislikes before the plug was pulled. Were they concerned that it would go over poorly in the long run?

It's a strange world....

I'm just trying to figure it out. It wouldn't look great if the like to dislike ratio wasn't strong at the start. Either way it's just weird to constantly be uploading, deleting, making videos private, etc...

Usually when an artist puts out a video, it's there and that's that.

Perhaps they just wanna keep us guessing.

To me it constantly looks like whoever is in charge of uploading the videos is putting up videos without getting it cleared by his superiors.  Every time a video pops up and it goes away it's as if the higher-ups somehow got wind that the video got up and they work immediately to get it down.  Perhaps they realized that they wanted to use the video at a later time or just for something else all together.

The videos all get out eventually -- it's just like the channel is being run by someone (Al?) who isn't good with technology and keeps spilling the beans.

Yeah, fair enough. I'm just trying to see it from the label's point of view. Wirestone & Justin probably hit the nail on the head though.

Doesn't Melinda have to do all the computer things for Brian? I'm picturing a temp or somebody checking off all the things they need to do quickly, and just throwing a laptop into Brian's arms saying "upload this video."

After a few days of bewildered clicking, he uploads the video...and several goofy photos taken with the webcam.
