Blueboarder - the term
«
on:

What does it mean? Yeah, I saw Lester Bangs' quote, and I know it's a slang term here for sycophants on the Blue Board, but...I can't find an actual definition on the web.
"Diseased bunch of blueboarders"...what does it mean in that context?
Guess I'm dumb.

"Blueboarders" are the Brianistas that post on Brian's message board. It started out being blue (I believe that was around 2000).
BTW I didn't change that quote. I typed in the original word "mo'fos" but it was censored to "blueboarders" and I think it's funny as hell...

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST
To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Huh. OK.
If I were to guess on a definition of "blueboarder", it would be something akin to a ho-dad...somebody who looks like they surf, but doesn't.
But man...it's all just a censorship algorithm.
Blueboard dat!

Wait wait, I know that when Mike introduced himself to Sean O'Hagan he called him a disparaging sexual name. Now, why have I seen some people say that he called Sean a blueboarder? Just as, a joke? Or because blueboarders are those...well that sexual term?

Because he didn't actually call him that. He allegedly called up something that was actually derogatory and it was censored by this board and replaced with the term blueboarder, in reference to the people who post at brianwilson.com --> a reference Mike could not have known about at the time. Which is why he didn't use it.

Nope, he used the much more piquant one about sexuality with a rich, homophobic history... and occasionally used by possibly three people to describe bundles of sticks.
Seeing any variation on "foda" makes me vaguely ashamed to be reading it, tho. How many children post here, anyway?

oh, right, that's what Mike called Sean. I was trying to think of what Sean could've possibly called Mike because I didn't remember reading anywhere that Sean said anything offensive to Mike.

Ha, oh yes, I totally missed that! Can you tell the coffee hasn't quite kicked in yet?
I'm guessing just being younger and more fashionable at the time was enough to be offensive. Or maybe he was just testing him with an Alpha Male pecking order insult ploy that tough guys seem to love to do -- right before they get in your space, give you a humiliating nickname, or condescendingly pat you on the back.

There was free outdoor concert played by Brian at the Hatch Shell in Boston about 7-8 years ago (hazy memory on the exact date, too lazy to look it up...), which I turned into a road trip, party weekend, and a visit to my old Boston haunts at the same time. Oldies 103.3 sponsored it, and having been to quite a few of these free radio station oldies shows previously, Brian's show was easily the largest crowd I can remember for any of the shows. He only did the oldies/greatest hits stuff, even though I think it was either before or after the Smile shows. Darian wasn't there.
Two things I remember well from the audience: A very determined young guy standing off to one side yelling "Heroes And Villains!" over and over during the show. That was on the side near the river.
And a group of fans on the other street side of the stage who - and apologies if it was anyone on the board - were sitting close to the stage, on the grass, covered by some kind of a tent or blanket. They were acting *too* excited for the show, and if you'd look over at them after making the rounds through the crowds, that blanket-tent thing was bobbing up and down and side to side constantly, and they were making a lot of noise and clapping and all of that, regardless of what was or wasn't happening on stage. Then we got closer to where Brian and band were going to be leaving, and they were hovering around with what I remember was a whole sh*tload of various stuff which I think was either going to be gifted to Brian or which they wanted signed by Brian or whatever - and it wasn't albums and the usual merch but if I recall it was classic trinket "stuff" which may have included teddy bears and the like.
I forget who told me or how I found out, but this was apparently a group of "Blueboarders" who had gotten together for the show. So maybe the stories I had heard from others about those folks wanting to give Brian gifts for his children or greeting cards or whatever were what was going on there.
I could be wrong but I seem to remember that fans around that tent-blanket thing were getting annoyed and may have even started heckling them, again that may just be my foggy memory.
I know nothing about those people or who they were and I don't mean to sound like a jerk which I usually do anyway, but it seemed to be taking the fan experience not just too far but walking right off the edge of the cliff with it...

As much as I'd love to get rid of the censored words and phrases here...sadly much of the membership is offended by certain words. Trust me, I've tried to get rid of them.

What if the filter was optional, perhaps turned on by default, but users could turn it off in account settings? I love this board, but the censorship of profanity always struck me as odd. I suppose it puts you guys in a difficult position if so many members are easily offended.

Sometimes those filters a Plenty More annoying than the language, at times, for instance of you are discussing the merits of Please Please Me versus Surfer Girl, the Post Mortem assessment of Adult/Child, whether Paul Mccartney sang or chewed on Vegetables, and if Marcella was actually based on someone that gave Brian a Personal Massage.
Y'know what I mean.

I fixed it so only the bold version of it would be filtered, as that was the original issue in the first place.

So many members are easily offended to begin with. There was a period when this board first opened when we had no filters for about a month. Then it came back, of course.

Shoot I was reading Elvis biography's with swearing in them from like age six. Rock and roll isn't polite! In truth I do think we should have an optional way to either see or not see it, but I for one don't care about swearing either way. I love Rolling Up To Heaven and Drip Drop so there's my sense of hunor.

or at least change them to things that you can still understand what they mean.. I get it that changing some offensive words to "blueboarder" is funny but it removes meaning. and the whole "clocktails" thing is really annoying too.

You think that's odd.
This very board was banned for a few weeks (until yesterday in fact) at my place of work due to "profanity".
I work in a school and successfully argued that the music department has legitimate reasons to read about the Beach Boys....and if an Beach Boys-centred site with auto-censorship is banned then how are our kiddies supposed to read about other forms of music such as punk and metal?
Back in my day Never Mind The Bollocks was given as "essential listening" by the exam board as a prime example of punk, we were also instructed to listen to Bob Dylan, Mike Oldfield, Lizzie Miles and Duke Ellington in addition to Mozart and his ilk. This was 1987-89.
Now I just have to persuade the management that sites on programming languages are not "gambling"...
