That's Why God Made The Radio - The Beach Boys
Clockwork Angels - Rush
Music From Another Dimension - Aerosmith

3 of my favorite bands, all have new albums... in 2012?!?!

WOW.

LOL I'm not really sure if that constitues a "new birth of music". Especially considering that two of those bands were making music not to long ago.

Only one of those interests me, but just goes to show, Beach Boys fans are not limited to fun, sunny pop music.

Although, come to think of it. It has been a year of an unprecedented amount of bands getting back together

For me, a "rebirth of music" would be if all my favorite artists that used to play Largo on Fairfax (Jon Brion, Michael Penn, Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, etc. etc.) all were at the top of their game songwriting-wise and suddenly became famous instead of semi-reclusive. C'mon gang! Lay off the soundtrack work! Do some great pop records! (OK, hopefully Fiona's new one will be great...but Jon: you gotta stop hating the notion of releasing things and being in the public eye. 12 years between albums is too much, dammit...)

But hey, if your favorite three bands are back in action, that's gotta feel good. Enjoy that rebirth you're feeling! Wish I were on that trip too.

I hate Rush and I loath Aerosmith.

But like Lonely Summer said, the Beach Boys really do appeal to folks with a wide variety of tastes. I am most looking forward to new albums from Regina Spektor and The Flaming Lips this year (in addition to the new Beach Boys, of course).

Music has never died. Music will never die. Music will never be reborn through old-favorite bands releasing music. It isn't that those old bands can't release good new music. In fact, if they do, that's irrelevant.

Steven Tyler + Burger King Commercials = Oh yeah It's Alive For Aerosmith Razz hahaha..I'm suprised Joe Perry hasn't kick his ass for almost ruining their legacy. I know I know it's the past and this is the present but he's a clown.

Last year you had reunion albums by The Cars, Magazine, Blondie, and the Zombies. Those all trump new releases from the likes of Rush or Aerosmith for me.

'Aerosmith' and 'rebirth' as in the context of music should not be placed in the same sentence.

I was just thinking that a few days ago! The same applies for individual artists. Recently found an article about singer Jessica Andrews signing on to a new record label and album this year after going under the radar for almost a decade. Come to think of it, 2012 is becoming an interesting year of milestones and events, for me at least.

2012=magic year??

That is such an ignorant affirmation that I'm not even going to argue with.

I'll just say that Joe Perry is in no way a saint, nor the "good guy" in Aerosmith and has been responsible lots and lots of times for the conflicts in the band. And no, I'm not a Steven Tyler worshiper.
