Just got his book and I wondered how well he really knew the guys? It's hard to know if he's being honest

Well, some of the facts check out, but others don't. Ian can give you a better overview of this.

So, all in all, is Endless Summer: My Life with the Beach Boys worth the purchase? I leafed through a few pages on amazon but I wasn't too impressed with his writing. Maybe somebody who has read it could give me his/her 2 cents, before I pay €20 for another dispensable BBs book.

The book seems OK but it's mostly just about them fooling around with women on the road. Interesting at times though.

I have it and wasn't impressed at all. Some interesting stories about the groupie days, but seems like fluff for the most part.

I do like the photos a lot though and hadn't seen most of them. The story about Brian and the radio interview was cool too.

This from the Barnes and Noble site for something called 'From Cyrano to Magoo'

Overview
After detailing his experiences with The Beach Boys in his book, Endless Summer: My Life With The Beach Boys, Jack Lloyd now retraces his life as he emerges from the psychedelic drug scene of the 1960s with rock stars Jimi Hendrix and Eric Burdon to a chance meeting with award-winning actor and film star, José Ferrer. As their lifelong friendship blooms, Jack engages with a parade of celebrities that would make a Who's Who of Hollywood envious . . . Frank Sinatra, Omar Sharif, Paul Lynde, Dustin Hoffman, William Shatner, Telly Savalas, Leslie Nielsen, Donald O'Connor, Rosemary Clooney, Jack Lemmon, and Lana Turner, to name but a few.
When a surprising turn of events brings "Mr. Magoo" and Gilligan's Island's "Thurston Howell III" Jim Backus into Jack's life, the two embark on an incredible roller coaster ride through the hills and valleys of show business with stars such as JoAnne Worley, Merv Griffin, William Peter Blatty, Natalie Schafer, Peter Marshall, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Lynde, Milton Berle, and Jerry Lewis.

Enjoy the fascinating ups and downs of Joe and Jim and the crazy house that Jack built.

....Looks to me more like a wannabe.

In all fairness, a suitably deranged chance encounter with Jim Backus is enough to warrant a trilogy of memoirs.

I have exchanged correspondence with Jack and I believe that he is for real.  He was indeed their road manager in 68-69 and I have news articles from the time that back that up.  I also found that when he discussed tours, he knew info that I was missing.  For example he mentioned that an Oct 68 tour started in Knoxville and when I contacted the Knoxville library it turned out to be correct-there are similar stories for other tours.
