I recently dug out the video I shot at the October, 2000 Carl Wilson Foundation concert in Malibu and re-discovered a couple nice surprises I had forgotten about. One is contained in this video I just uploaded - Brian playing bass on Surfer Girl! And he is THE bass player, not just miming like he's done more recently. You can tell he was really concentrating on his playing and ends up doing a pretty good job overall. His vocal on the bridge is quite good too. The band vocals have sounded better though. I think they had a bad monitor mix. It was a pretty laid back affair - almost a Wilson family reunion and fans just hanging out with them.

Another highlight was Blondie Chaplin performing "Sail On Sailor" with Ricky Fataar on drums. I may upload that later.  Smiley

Enjoy!

Definitely cool to see (and kinda hear!) Brian play bass again.  Haven't seen/heard him actually play it during his later years...

thanks for posting!

thanks for uploading that! He seemed very loose, especially at the beginning before the song started. Haven't seen that side of Brian in a very long time.

I'm sorry, but I think the bass playing on that is very amateur. But it is cool to see Brian so loose and actually trying to play bass.

I kind of get the feeling this is the way Brian behaves most of the time when he's not in the public eye and being judged as Brian Wilson.

AGD has said that he has seen him totally relaxed and joking when he's at ease.

I usually find it difficult to physically equate the BW of the post-Landy era with the 60s BW. They just look so different.

But when the song starts up in Gregg's vid, i can really see the same Brian from the 1964 Lost Concert show.

This reminds me of thinking that during the C50 tour Brian should have worn the sunglasses instead of Dave...
