I think he is a greasy and slimey fellow. Like I imagine a has-been rockstar turned used car salesman would be. So he is entertaining I guess from that standpoint but on the whole I don't like him nor do I think he is particularly funny.

Big Stern can here.  He gets me through my morning commute, which averages over 1 hour per day.

I listen to Howard every morning he's live and I generally enjoy most of the shows on his channels too. I've heard the 1998(I believe) interview with Brian but not the 88' one. Also, I've been trying to track down the Mike Love interview with no success. Anyone who has any info where I can hear these, it would be appreciated!

I don't think he's very hated at all, as a matter of fact he's one of the (or the) most listened to radio personalities ever.

As for my opinion of him, I find him pretty boring.  It's pretty cool to interview a stripper, or a porn star.  After the 100th porn star, though... I'm kind of over it.

He's America's fart joke.  Funny for a little while, but eventually you move onto something a little more substantive.

I'm a brit so he hasn't penetrated my consciousness too much, but I did thoroughly enjoy his interview with Roger Waters at the beginning of the year - I can't think of many other interviewers who ask 'how big is your dick?' (I assume that's a catchphrase of sorts?)

I used to really enjoy his show but I find myself tuning in less than I used to. I've found myself listening to O&A a bit more.

Yup. About as sophisticated a fart joke... not that there is anything wrong with fart jokes.

I think (could be wrong) that Stern is second only to Rush in 'most listened to' talk show hosts ever.  So they're not too far apart, lol.

Crass jokes aside, the only thing that really bugs me about Stern is that he seems like such an angry guy. I don't like the vibe I get listening to him.

I agree with your previous fart joke comment (I said the same thing a few posts above).  I just think the low brow stuff gets old.  I've never seen him as that angry though, I think he's being a little insincere because he's boxed himself into this persona that he has to live up to.  So he has to ask the guy how big his dick is, because everybody expects him to.  He's probably a really talented guy (no way in hell he'd last this long if he wasn't) but he doesn't get to show his talent much.

Still, regardless, he has a reputation for giving good interviews.  It's inevitable, whenever you talk about musicians/actors/atheletes anybody famous, somebody always mentions how good Howard Stern's interview was with them.

Love him.  Kind of upset that he sold out and went on "America's Got Talent", but at least I have a reason to watch it now.
