Interesting, Mikie D is playing left-handed bass.

Where are you seeing this?

Ah yes, I had to brighten it up a bit to spot this on my monitor, I was watching the clip but not seeing the back row of players!

Just curious, is this something new for him to be playing bass lefty, or is it the kind of bass he's using that stood out?

[...] Brian Wilson took on more of a central role in the second half of the show, performing knock-out renditions of Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B and Heroes and Villains.
Yeeaah.  3D

Anyway.. what is being criticised exactly? I don't really get it. Seems like the review of somebody who attended a cool BBs show, but isn't really into their music anyway. Nothing negative is said about the musical quality. Not much at all is said about the music itself. Not that good a review, sorry.

What's even better?  If you check out the video of 409, he made sure to put his "Shot by..." tag on the bottom of it, like that shitty recording is something to be proud of.

If his penmanship is anything like his camera work, I'd say the guy's a pretty shitty reporter.

I think we all should be responsible and toss a green bra at Al during Help Me Rhonda during this tour. Could start a nice tradition.  Smiley

Ah, I just realized: it was a Thursday, and the bra was green!

That's cos he's left handed on bass and guitar - plays drums right handed - Ringo anyone

As far as the set list goes and their more distinguished shows versus the hits, I think that at some venues (such as the Saratoga Springs concert at the Performing Arts Center that I am attending  Grin) some deep tracks will be performed. Some of these smaller, artsy venues will definitely have a different set list than a lot of the traditional shows.

I'd like to think that they have a completely different set catered for the theatre shows than they do for the big outdoor shows but  as we've seen that doesn't seem to be the case.

Watching those videos, I'm really excited to see members of both Brian's and Mike and Bruce's bands there. I remember that--when debating the idea of a BB reunion-- people on SS would talk about how the band would be configured. It's kind of amazing to me that the factions were able to agree on which band members from each group to include, not to mention the setlist and who would sing which part. I love that Brian has his band members there for support.

It's 3:16 PM, and I just noticed something...

Our Brian is again playing a prosthetic piano.  First thing I noticed was that the contraption for the pedals is absent.  In the latest GV video, you can see that there is a black electronic keyboard dropped into the part of the grand where the keys should be.  The piano itself looks a bit small to be real, but Brian is so damn big that it's probably just a regular grand piano case (frame, strings, keys removed). And it's closed, so you can't see what's gone.

I say bring back the ashtray, and give BW an electronic cigarette and a Coke for that big white tabletop.

So.. he's not actually playing a white grand, but the keyboard? Like we're used to? I'm okay with that, and actually, it's kinda funny.
Anything that makes him feel comfortable on stage.. I'm sure he would love to have a white baby elephant to hide behind, but Mike wouldn't have it. Brian should play the keys once in awhile. So they gave him that "piano": it's white baby elephant and keyboard in one.

I would have absolutely assumed that the "white grand piano" was actually just a stylish frame for his usual electronic keyboard and lyric screen, rather than being a literal acoustic piano.  Shouldn't be a surprise.

It's a usual thing today to have an electronic keyboard inside of a grand piano body. It just looks better. Many, if not most acts do that nowadays

If any of that's auto-tuned, they oughta sack the tuna. And what's with the slide show on repeat in the background, with the "Automatic Ken Burns effect"?

Hmm...

So have we managed to suss out for good the presence of pitch correction / vocal effects unit on Brian at all for this show?

Both GV and IMR are a little too muddy to tell for certain.

Honestly don't hear anything unnatural in Brian's voice at the 2nd gig.

Could be that the so-called "live autotune" in Tucson was a safety net for the official taping, and not something planned for all of the reunion gigs. And why should it be, Brian's been in good (and sometimes fine) vocal form these past few years.

They need to apply autotune to some of these jerk offs singing in the audience.  Evil

OMG no one has ever sung as bad as the guy in the audience ever ever.

I don't hear Autotune-- I hear Brian singing his part in IMR just as he has at his solo gigs-- flat high D-sharps and all. But close enough to the truth to satisfy me...and much more human-sounding than the other night.
