I just recently found a Beach Boys single of Child of Winter, on the "Randy Records" label. Is this real, or a pirate/boot? I have never heard of a label called Randy Records. http://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-BEACH-BOYS-CHILD-OF-WINTER-GOOD-VIBRATIONS-LIVE-RANDY-/180865926052?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item2a1c7303a4

I hope it's Randy from Trailer Park Boys.

Jay it's a boot that came out. Until it was reissued on 45 and CD in 1998 it was very hard to find. I didn't hear it until I began to trade cassette tapes around 1994. I did finally find it some of the classic vinyl boots I scored some time later. I have the excellent 1998 single but still don't have a 1974 pressing.

I have never heard of a label called Randy Records.

The Kenny and The Cadets single "Barbie" was on Randy Records.

But the "Child Of Winter" single is a boot, of course or - to quote the seller - a fan club issue.

I've read about how the original single is supposed to be exceedingly rare and next to impossible to find, and the price seemed kind of to good to be true, so I had to ask.  Grin

I haven't heard this pressing but I would hold out for the offical 1974 or 1998 45's.

The Randy pressing is from 1977.  It was put out after that alternate take of Good Vibrations surfaced.  I don't think the Child of Winter 45 should be hard to find.  I have at least 3 permutations of it (Reprise label, Brother label, mono/stereo promo) that I got off ebay for less than $10 over the years.  For a record you could not find in the stores even when it was released (I tried ordering it from a big record chain in January 1975 and was told it was already not available) there seem to be a lot of stock copies around.
