I recently was made aware that a European magaine was issued which features several color versions of Jasper Dailey photographs which have only been seen in B&W. Does anyone based in Europe know which magaine this was??

Are we talking 66/67 or contemporary?

I believe contemporary (more than likely a tie-in with the TSS release).

Uncut Magazine, November 11, had three or four, which I think came from the Peter Reum and/or Michael Ochs collections.

Was it this per chance?

and secondly is this one legit? It has recently surfaced and is allegedly from January 1967 with a fellow called eden ahbez. Is there any info on what eden was doing at a Smile session?

He was a quite a character, it seems. Really, there is some exotica influence in part of Brian's work of the day. Priore wrote at length about this, I think.

Where did Brian meet these people?  3D

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I don't know, I only knew this Eden Ahbez tune:  youtu.be/xNkrPBTy07M Sit back and relax!

Full Moon (1960)

To live in an old shack by the sea
And breathe the sweet salt air
To live with the dawn, and the dusk
The new moon, and the full moon
The tides, the wind, and the rain

To surf and comb the beach, and gather seashells, and driftwood
And know the thrill of loneliness, and lose all sense of timeand be free

I haven't seen it, but perhaps it is "Upon Paper" a German magazine, published biannually. Jon Stebbins might know more

Eden Ahbez wrote "Nature Boy" for Nat King Cole back in the 1940's.  When long hair started being fashionable on males in the '60's, my parents told me- "...nothing new, we had a guy called "Nature Boy" who ran around with long hair in the '40's."  They were of course referring to Mr. Ahbez, who can be seen with Mr. Cole in some late '40's photos looking like Bunk Gardner in the Mothers...

Apparently he died in 95 aged 86 from injuries sustained in a car crash. Seemed like some guy! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eden_ahbez

The Eden Ahbez connection to Brian and Smile was taken a bit too far in some circles, in my opinion. The facts of it are that Brian and Eden met...and beyond that, is there anything else?

Ahbez as you'll read was a classic prototype of the hippie/non-conformist who basically wrote a song that became a massive hit for Nat Cole and then dropped out, living on his own terms off the royalties from "Nature Boy". That's a pretty cool story in itself, i think every songwriter would be into living off royalties that way!

But the Smile connections? I think they are threadbare at best. Just my opinion...I wasn't there, I didn't see these gatherings with Van Dyke and Frank Holmes and all the others from the coffeehouse scene that Van Dyke was a part of in the 60's, but I always thought it was a bit of a stretch to connect Ahbez to Brian and vice-versa, and as a means to what end would the attempt be made? It's a photo.

It's comical to see Brian's expression in the photo: Does he look anything less than annoyed in the shot? I remember one magazine or book published that same photo and captioned it with the name "Brias Wilson"... Grin

It's interesting to finally find out where Brian got his 1970's fashion sense.

I wonder whether this isn't a H&V intro session. Either that or "Swedish Frog" just took on a much darker meaning.
