I just recently bought a dvd called Popcorn. I think it was made in 1969. It is a compilation of different groups and songs from the 60's. One of the groups featured is The Beach Boys, and it is a film that I have never seen before. The quality isn't very good. The members that I have been able to identify are Dennis, Carl, Al, Bruce and Mike. It seems to have been filmed around the time of Wild Honey or Friends. The film begins with the group parking at a store, apperantly to buy surfboards. Then it cuts to the group driving to a beach and then you see people surfing. The picture was to dark for me to make out wich of the members were surfing. Heroes and Villains plays during the entire clip. The mix of H&V is odd. I can make out parts of the harmony that I have never been able to hear before. I was hoping somebody here would know when or why this film was done. Was it meant to be a promotional video for H&V?

It's a movie with various clips played mostly at colleges etc. Cool version though most of that footage was originally used in a Do It Again video. Never saw it in decent shape before. I think this mixes the original Heroes and Do It Again vids. Heroes just was of a man surfing.

Thanks for the info.  Smiley It did seem like whoever was surfing wasn't a Beach Boy, but the picture was to dark to tell.

The "Heroes & Villains" track heard on the YouTube clip is a mono fold-down of the HAWTHORNE, CA stereo remix. This can't be the version that originally appeared in the POPCORN film.

Never saw it in that quality. Thank you !
It looks like footage of Dennis and Bruce surfing might be in there. The rest - no.

Would love to have that kind of footage on a new dvd/in the PBS special

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Have ya'll read Look Listen Vibrate Smile? Domenic Priore writes about the H&V film, which wasn't an official promo, but a Top Of The Pops clip that was substituted in lieu of the band appearing instudio. As Priore notes, the surfing clip works surprisingly well.
