Does anyone happen to know any details about Carl's prom? I was just wondering if they played any Beach Boys songs there and how he reacted to that, if it ever happened.

AFAIK Carl never graduated so I doubt he would have attended his prom, by which time he was already famous.

I remember seeing a photo with him at some kind of dance, so I just assumed it was prom. Thanks for the info!

Did Carl drop out of school because of the Beach Boys success and/or having no time for school? Actually never really thought about it, but it makes sense.
Dennis had his graduation, though, right? Should've been about a year before their regional breakthrough..

Carl transferred to the Hollywood Professional School - with the Rovells and David - when his stardom made life at Hawthorne High impossible (spring 1963). Dennis was expelled spring 1962 for hitting someone with a screwdriver.

Jesus, that just popped up without any concious thought on my part.  Shocked

Ok, here's the photo I was talking about. I found it on The Sunrays page. There's also a 1964 graduation photo of Carl...not sure that means he graduated. But on the bottom, "JEANNE MOCKRIDGE & CARL WILSON PROM NIGHT." I forgot what I was trying to prove...oh yeah, did they play Beach Boys? haha

That 1st photo - I always thought Dennis was average height or taller, but he seems pretty short, especially in relation to the guy on the far right.

So how tall was Dennis?

Yeah, but the guy on the far right seems to be closer to the camera, making him looking taller. Compare the top picture to the one directly below it. In the picture below, the guy on the far right no longer seems so much taller than the guy in the V neck next to him.

But I don't know how tall Dennis was.

That's due to perspective.

So how tall was Dennis?
5' 9" (1.75 m). So you could say he was about average size. Not the tallest, but no Jardine either.

Carl could have gone to his date's school prom - just as anyone can go to another school's prom if they're invited by their date and they have a ticket. He could have changed schools, dropped out, graduated early, whatever, but he could go to any other school's prom if invited. Simple answer. Smiley

oh man, Carl's message in that yearbook is hilarious. he writes like a such a beatnik stereotype. "man you're really happening man", "I hope our friendship lasts for a long gig", hahaha

I would never see him as that, that's hilarious.  Oh to be 18 again, LOL.

When I was in Junior High school, a friend of mine wrote a bunch of nasty stuff in my yearbook, my mom flipped out, called his mom, she made him pay for it, lol.

Pictures and things like this just remind you how similar things were back then, to what they are now.  At first glance, it's a different time but the small things like his comments kind of giving away his immaturity show that not much has changed.

I remember reading a while back that the Beach Boys once played the prom at Hawthorne High School, which if true, would have been a very cool thing to experience.

April 18th, 1969 at the Beverley Hilton Hotel, LA. Apparently the organizers asked them as a bit of a joke, and got the shock of their lives when the band said "sure !".

Would have been cool for Brian to play that gig since he actually graduated from Hawthorne High School along with Al.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591
