Maybe I'm running out of good thread topics but what do you think are some "cool" Beach Boys songs, by cool I mean hip, relevant, perhaps trendy and contemporary sounding, I for one think Dennis's 3 rockers from Sunflower, I'm Going Your Way and Sound Of Free are all really stellar and cool sounding songs that should've been more heavily promoted when The Beach Boys were just starting to become hip again to the counter culture. Feel free to discuss.  Cool

All I Want To Do
For a late 60's hard rock track that has aged remarkably well and still sounds pretty rad.

Yes! For sure, Another cool Dennis rocker, he was good at this! It's too bad The Beach Boys didn't re-invent themselves in a way that would have Dennis as the cool, sexy frontman and main songwriter.

When Blondie and Ricky joined the BB's, they gave the band a certain punch and helped make them really polished live performers. They contributed some really cool sounding songs as well like Here She Comes and Leaving This Town.

Also, Sail On Sailor. Songs don't get much cooler than that. Great lead vocal, background vocals, and great jazz guitar work.

As We Also Have Forgiven Our Wife And Managers,
And Lead Us Not Into Kokomo,
But Deliver Us From Mike Love.

The Brian glory songs of 1962-1967. Cool Guy

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Yes! and go figure, goofy, cornball, odd looking Myke out front and the ever so cool Dennis buried behind the drums. Put Luhv back in the shadows or somewhere down the line and Denny up front where he should have been-could have been a real game changer for Dennis and the group for sure, but noooooooooo. Too true.  In fact, I had CD on my list list I was making it but when I listened to it to check, it didn't stand up.  Cool for 1985 doesn't mean it holds up.  I meant to remove it before I moved on but missed it.  Darlin' isn't nearly as cool as the others on the list and probably should have been left off to but I always liked the one-two punch of it and Marcella from the live album.

All I Wanna Do from Sunflower is the coolest song they ever did. I'm not even sure how that song came about but there's nothing from that time that approaches it sonically IMO. It was about 30 years ahead of its time!

Darlin' is well cool.

However, I'd say Holland. Fits in perfectly with lots of early 70's Asylum type country rock, like Neil Young or Judee Sill or something.

I dig the Live in London version of Darlin' but I've never liked the album version. I feel the same way with Marcella as well. The In Concert version is great but the album version is very lacking.
