I found an article in the WSJ that refers to Brian stating in the film Beautiful Dreamer that the BWPS process amounted to the end of a forty-year nervous breakdown.

Quoting the article:

Wilson described the writing sessions with Parks and Sahanaja, the subsequent recording sessions, and the September 28, 2004, release of  “Brian Wilson Presents Smile” as the end of his “forty-year nervous breakdown.”

Does anyone know exactly what was said by Mr. Wilson along these lines in the film?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't remember anything like that. I bet David Leaf asked him "Is this like the end of your “forty-year nervous breakdown" and he said "yea right".

I just happened to have dug this out and watched it earlier today. At least in the main film, I know there was nothing of the sort, and I don't remember that sort of question being asked anywhere on the special features, but it's been a while since I watched those.

I thought it was at the very end of the film proper, but yes it might have been in one of those bonus feature interviews with David Leaf.
