So apparently, if you get the box set there are no details for the basic disc 1 album as far as I can tell. There are notes spread throughout the notes on the sessions for discs 2 thru 5 but that is it. Am I right on this, or is there details somewhere else in the box. It just kinda seems odd that even though they went so in depth with who plays what and where on discs 2 thru 5, but one can't find the info on the basic completed or nearly-completed tracks on the first disc.

Anyways, hopefully somebody else didn't already post something like this.

The notes on discs 2-5 contain the info you seek but granted, it's not easily accessed.

And may I add that it's gotten me all stressed out.     Will take your word for it, Andrew.

I get the impression that the uber-editing made it unclear to the sessionographer.

It's actually immaculately done. Every fly-in is documented. Basically, rather than duplicate the info, they simply go track by track through discs 2-5. At the end of the sessions for each tune, they then document where the takes used for "the assembly on disc 1" came from.

Wirestone,

I am glad to hear THAT!

Still a very weird way to present it (i.e. people looking frantically for a page that didn't exist).  Haven't played yet or read any of the book, just browsed for contents without glasses.

Now relieved.

Well, not exactly, I was just given the directive that the "sessionography" be just that...in the limited amount of space we had, I had to provide credits not so much for each individual "track" but rather for each individual "session".  But granted, I knew going in it would be a bit messy, 'cause that's the nature of the beast.  If it had been any other Beach Boys album, it woulda been tons easier.  Having said that, I'm kicking myself raw that I left the "Tag vocals" credit off the first version of "Wind Chimes".  Honestly, it bums me out to no small extent that I missed that!  But at least I got the info for that session in there (date, location, etc.), so I only feel 50% as bad as I could feel!

Yeah, don't feel bad! That sessionography is my second favorite part of my box-set (after the music of course) and I was just nerding out to it! It's great.

Maybe a more detailed follow-up article/essay sometime ?

Yeah I thoroughly enjoyed your sessionography, and I'm not into that sort of thing half as much as most here. It makes it so much easier now to get a sense of what was recorded when during the Smile era. Definitely the high point of the book for me along with the photos. Many thanks!

I appreciate your liner notes a great big lot! Smiley (I admit I made fun of myself yesterday showing those liners to a friend and praising how much I'm into them... Roll Eyes) And I found the info you promised me months ago, too!

So, what exactly are the "Tag vocals" credits of the first version of "Wind Chimes"? Smiley

Any other omissions or errors that somehow crept into the sessionography?  Perhaps you could post an "addendum" to the sessionography here or elsewhere that includes any info you had to leave out of the book.  We want no scrap of session info to be neglected or lost to posterity!

Just write a book C-Man, given the fact that I just spend more than 100 euro's on a box of music, I'm pretty sure I will pay for a book on the subject too.
We can crowdfund it...
