Is there any order that one should listen to this box set?

I thought first of maybe listen to all the session cds and then the actual "album" cd..
others are starting with disc 5.

So how are YOU gonna listen to this? And why? Smiley

I'm thinking of listening to the vinyl first while I have two computers going with Exact Audio Copy ripping the CDs so I can soak 'em in on my daily commute...or maybe I'll call in sick on Wednesday. Smiley

1. Vinyl LP (first 3 sides) - I want to start by hearing the "album" in its highest fidelity, uninterrupted (no skipping around!)

2. The 45s. First H&V p1&2, then Vegetables/Surf's Up.

3. CD1 (all the way through)

4. Vinyl Side 4 (finish off the alternate mixes before I delve into the sessions)

5. CD5, followed by CDs 2-4

6. CD2 (from 2 disc version)

Then, repeat ad infinitum

Sounds exactly like my plans.

Since I'll most likely be listening to it at the office, Disc 1 will be first, so I can get the overview. The rest, in whatever order strikes my fancy.

Not to be nitpicky, but haven't we all begun our Smile sessions listening experience a long time ago? Smiley

Seriously though, I might rip the material to my computer and shuffle the tracks around. Might actually consider doing the whole fan mix thing again.

I'm going to listen to Surf's Up 1967 then the vinyl, then the rest of the CDs in order, not including tracks 1-19 on CD 1.

Then again, something tells me the very first thing that'll happen is that box will be opened up, and the laser will suddenly be reading "Surf's Up '67" before ANYTHING ELSE happens...

Well I've prepared myself now for Monday. I've got some Coke (coke-cola drink), An big rump steak, with a big cream cake for afters. After I've finished my early shift at 9am I will head on down to HMV buy the 2cd set (can't afford the 5cd set I'm afraid) burn the cd's onto my ipod, And spent a very lazy day eating, drinking (soft drinks only) and listening to smile music at least 10 times lol.

All you need is a mountain of cocaine and a Moog synthesizer and you're set!

I will invite my SMiLE box set (and 2 CD set) to a candlelit dinner with a glass of Merlot.

After dinner, the wrapping comes off!

Like a nervous wreck?

I have to go see my flatmate play a gig at Ronnie Scott's that night, so depending on the post I'll listen to the 3 sides of vinyl, then the bonus tracks of the CD, and then pick from there. Maybe the H&V disc....

I have the feeling the backing vocals montage is gonna absolutely floor me so I might just spend the day listening to that  Grin

For me, I have Tuesday off work, but I don't think the box will come until 2-3pm at the earliest.
What to do all day?

Figured I'd try and pick up the 2CD set the night before (Halloween).  My local store always puts out Tuesday releases around 5-6pm Monday night.
If for some reason they don't have it out, I'll go to Best Buy Tuesday morning.

I have no idea now what I'll start with.  I'm more interested in the assembled album.  So at this point I may start with "You're Welcome" at disc 1 and go to the end of disc 2, then wait for the vinyl for tracks 1-19.  But who knows.  I'll probably just play the whole set several times, waiting for Mr. Postman.
