which do you like the best? personally I like "She's going bald" but "He gives speeches" has cool background vocals from Brian and a cool drum beat..

I like both…

I like the visual games going on in Speeches, especially the Little hands shadowed on the ceiling… I like the lightness of Bald.  I'm not as fond of the heavier percussion version of Speeches but I'll take it!

Pretty much agree.  Both are great for their own reasons, just like "Smiley" v. "Smile."

I prefer "She's Goin' Bald", although it isn't really a fair comparison - "He Gives Speeches" is just a fragment that doesn't go anywhere else, whereas "She's Goin' Bald" is a full song, completed in Brian's masterful modular fashion.

Two different animals really, as Demon alluded to.

I like HGS, but the thing is, Smiley Smile was the first BB cd I ever bought, and was when I heard SGB that I realized "hey, I really like this band". The middle section still blows my mind to this day.

I'm with Chris on this one. SGB is a complete song. HGS never ever sounded finished to me, even from a writing standpoint--it just goes over and over and then...stops.

I like both.
One cd I made for myself has HGS fading into In My Car  Smiley sounds awesome where the two merge...

Like both. But put HGS and SGB together and - hot diggedy! - a more modular longer version!

"She's Goin' Bald" may be the only instance of a Smiley Smile arrangement being much more intracite than it's Smile counterpart. More to it structurally, too, and for the better. HGS is really good, I just happen to like "She's Goin' Bald" moar i m o.

Smiley Smile was the second full Beach Boys album I ever listened to. "She's Goin' Bald" was one of the tracks that made me realize this wasn't just some 60s band.

She's Going Bald, simply for the reason that this (and the SS version of Windchimes) presents one of the earliest examples of pitch shifting (as in altering the pitch without touching the speed) that I can think of
