Anyone know more about this Capitol Records representative who Dennis talks about in "Bull Sessions with 'Big Daddy'"? I tried Googling his name, but for some reason my office's web filter is blocking the results.

I've wondered about this too.  I didn't know if Dennis was just joking saying that name Dick Rising, but I just googled it and found a website with the above picture.  The caption reads:

Clockwise from front: Bill Muster (back to camera, researcher's father), Perry Mayer, Dick Rising, Fred Rice, Bud Frazer, Steve Auld, Jack Smothers. Unknown photographer, circa 1957 - 1958.

I hear that Dick Rising is one of the greatest guys you could meet in your life.

Looks like Paulos beat me to the punch, and it appears this has already been discussed at length.  Whoops.

I am shocked and appalled that I'm not the first person to come up with a punchline to this 46-year-old wiener joke setup.

I guess he could have been trying to make a joke, I can't tell.  I always see the 60's as so innocent but hell I wasn't there so who knows.  I've heard women even got pregnant sometimes back then.  So maybe it's not how I imagine it.

Speaking of one liners... I recently got Roger Miller's boxset, and there's a recording on there of him writing something in the studio... he's trying to figure out how he wants the lyrics to go, and he's struggling with it... the engineer taps in and goes "Roger, would it help if we gave you a count?" and Roger really quick fires back "No... bring me a duke and a princess"

Confirmed a while back that Dick Rising was indeed a real person.

C'mon, d00d, you've got like five other choices as a nickname for Richard, and you're gonna go with that one? = )

You should watch 'Mad Men'.

It's possible that "Rising" is pronounced differently than "rising" by the family themselves. But on paper and in pixels it looks like a joke.

Wasn't it 'Reising' originally?

In that case, you should listen to the full 20 minute Bull Session that's available. The boys talk about things a lot worse than dick rising.

There's one tape somewhere, with Murray in the studio (may have been the Help me Rhonda sessions)... one of the guys starts talking in an effiminate, 'gay' sounding voice and Murray goes "HEY!" really stern, lol.  Hilarious.
