Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson Agrees to Undergo Revolutionary Hypnosis Treatment to Release SMiLE circa 1967
Hollywood, California - September 2, 2011 – Capitol/EMI Records executives today announced that Brian Wilson, the ‘genius’ behind the Beach Boys, has agreed to undergo a revolutionary week-long program of music hypnosis next week in order to facilitate “going back to the sandbox” to correctly arrange the song order for the upcoming SMiLE Sessions which is scheduled to be released on November 1st [October 31 internationally] this year.
In numerous sessions between the spring of 1966 and the summer of 1967, The Beach Boys recorded a bounty of songs and drafts for an album, SMiLE, that was intended to follow the band’s 1966 masterpiece, Pet Sounds. The master tapes were ultimately shelved, and The Beach Boys’ SMiLE has never been released. Drawn from the original masters, The SMiLE Sessions presents an in-depth overview of The Beach Boys' recording sessions for the enigmatic album, which has achieved legendary, mythical status for music fans around the world.
Beach Boy fans were elated when Capitol/EMI confirmed earlier this year that Brian Wilson and the rest of the surviving members of the Beach Boys had agreed to finally release the SMiLE era recordings. The excitement increased last week when Capitol/EMI issued a press release showing the various configurations for the upcoming SMiLE Sessions release which will include a single disc version, a two cd version, a box set including both CDs and vinyl of the SMiLE Sessions as well as other limited edition box set configurations including one which will have a surfboard. However, since then, Beach Boys websites and blogs have been busy discussing and debating what recordings will be included in the release and what should be the correct song order or ‘template’ for the single disc version.
The origins of the controversy go back to 1967 when Capitol printed SMiLE covers in anticipation of the then LP’s release as well as a hand-written note from the same era, thought to be submitted by Brian to Capitol, which listed a proposed song order for the album.
With the debate increasing in intensity, this past week Capitol/EMI was contacted by two reknowned hypnotists [who wish to remain anonymous] who claimed they can hypnotize Mr. Wilson with SMiLE sessions music so that he could travel back to 1967 to successfully arrange a finished SMiLE album circa 1967. Capitol/EMI then invited Mr. Wilson to view the various debates on line to try to convince him to agree to the therapy. “My fans mean everything to me, so when I saw how much they cared and loved and argued about SMiLE, I thought ‘sure, why not give it a try.’" Starting on Monday, Mr. Wilson will undergo daily four-hour sessions of music hypnosis during which he will listen to the SMiLE Session recordings and be transported back to his 1967 mind state. The doctors claim that by the end of the week, a SMiLE album circa 1967 will emerge.
“As Beach Boys and Brian Wilson fans, we are very happy to have this opportunity to work with Brian to help him complete the most famous “lost” album of all time, SMiLE” one of the doctors said this week. “We are confident that what will emerge from these sessions will be a SMiLE album which will be true to Brian’s vision from 1967” he added. When pressed by a skeptical reporter, one of the doctors emphasized, “Music hypnosis therapy has improved tremendously recently. The finished product will be much better than our previous effort with Axel Rose on the Guns N’ Roses ‘lost’ album Chinese Democracy.” While the doctors can only promise to deliver a template for SMiLE circa 1967, they will not be able to totally complete the album since some recordings of the SMiLE Sessions are instrumental snippets without lyrics, “We’re doctors, not miracle workers” one of the doctors said.
