It's one of my favourite SMiLE moments, and it works wonderfully.

If I recall correctly though, on the test mix on the SOT box, it's omitted.

Was its inclusion on GV30 based on a 60s mix or did Mark include it, like Veg fade, as a way of giving us more SMiLE material?

I asked mark linett this same question a few year's ago although can't remember if I refered to the edit on sot. He replied that he just sequenced what sounded good together which surprised me as it's obviously so close to the track on sot. I do think that edit is the closest thing we have to a vintages sequence for heroes part 2. I can't imagine it had anything to do with the a side.

Edit: Think I might've misunderstood your question. Firstly is that edit on the SOT 17 a vintage Brian edit? I always assumed it was. Or was it a test mix that Mark had done for the GV box? If it's a vintage edit you can hear that swedish frog has been definitely removed (i.e. it was there previously), so mark must've been basing a large part of the Heroes Sections track (including the positioning of Swedish Frog) on that sequence. This is why I was surprised that he said he'd just sequenced that GV box track based on what sounded good, rather than basing a large part of it on historical evidence (i.e. that vintage edit).

If, however, it's one of Mark's test edits, then his answer would make more sense.
