I just discovered this amazing rendition of "That Same Song" with The Alexander Hamilton Double Rock Baptist Choir. Wow what quality? Has this ever been released officially or unofficially?
I can't stop listening to this,, amazing! Awe-inspiring!
I truly Love this,

It truly is awesome, Brian comes alive singing and looks happy for a brief time. At 1:48, is that Billy H in the choir?

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Whats really incredible is the part around 3:00 where AH gets up from the piano and the piano keeps playing.
I do like this version better than that released version. So much more life.

I'm starting to wonder why so many Brian/BB's fans seem to be unaware of the 1976 NBC TV special produced by Lorne Michaels which was among the highest profile TV related things of their entire career? Is there really a generation of BB's fans out there who are ignorant of the content of this iconic 35 yr old show that has re-run, been on DVD, on you tube, cherry-picked from in almost every other BB's documentary, and written about in nearly every BB's book? I'm just sayin' it seems like more people here know about outtakes from Smile that seven hundred people have heard, than know about a TV show that has played to millions upon millions. Weird. And yeah, that is Billy H.

I'm 23 and that NBC special is my favorite piece of non-audio Beach Boys media. Great performances, interviews, skits, etc. Surprising more people haven't seen it. When I saw this thread I figured it was going to be an old thread that got bumped.
That Same Song & I'm Bugged At My Old Man are probably my favorite performances of the show. I think the live versions sound better than the recorded ones. Even with the "blew his dad" part.

I never understood what everyone thinks is so great about this version. Of course, it's more alive than the studio cut and the choir sounds nice. But Brian's singing still sin't that great, the Beach Boys' mikes are mixed so that you can't hear them too well, the song still is average and doesn't bear the choir that much. The only really good about this is the piano playing and that you can see the Beach Boys. It's nice to see Brian having fun during this, obviously edited (I wonder how many takes were recorded), performance but it's far from being so great as so many people rate it.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

You mean the Beach Boys were around in the 1970s? Gosh they're old. They deserve congratulating on their longevity!

Jon, I've never seen the entire documentary. Just bits and pieces. Is the whole thing up anywhere in its entirety?

Torrent sites. But those are either frowned upon or illegal in your country. Use discretion.
