Hey guys....ha funny topic, I was wondering if you could shed more light onto the esteemed Mike & Dean project? I have Rock & Roll Again and know it was a Radio Shack exclusive but don't know much more about their collab than that. Did they ever play live? Did they record anymore as a duo? Mike & Dean kinda has a ring to it....maybe they'll have an anniversary reunion one of these days  LOL

They played live a few times; two bootlegs exist. They're both pretty good. Mostly the usual Beach Boys/Jan and Dean hits with a bunch of 50s and 60s covers thrown in. These were John Cowsill's first assignment with any of the Beach Boys. Jeff Foskett also played with them on occasion, as did Adrian Baker.

More than A few times, for sure.  They played a few of "Spring Break" tours in FLorida, plus other gigs

They were both frusterated with all the drugs around them at the time and decided to do a few things together. They didn't do anything great but the shows were probablly fun.

There's a list of M&D gigs on 10452, and an article in a recent(-ish) issue of ESQ.

Rock & Roll Again was originally called Rock & Roll City, btw.

Ha! I was just going to post the very same clip. You know, the best thing about this is that they didn't even bother to get it right in terms of who's lip-synching to who's singing. Cheesy

Seriously, I believe that is the worst-directed music video I have ever seen. Nothing is done right. By comparison, it makes the PET SOUNDS promo films look like cinematic art.

You have to see the whole "Scrooge's Rock 'n' Roll Christmas" TV show.  It's so bad -- and it hurts to see veteran western movie character actor Jack Elam have to play such a pathetic role.

In the Three Dog Night video, at one point Chuck Negron looks like he's about to nod off to sleep, and then somebody must have called out to him or snapped their fingers, because his head jumps up and he has this startled look on his face.  Pretty sad -- but amusing at the same time.

Here's the issue of ESQ that you should purchase. The dates Andrew referred to came from this edition…invaluable insight fromMike, Dean, Gary Griffin, Jeff Foskett and the promoter.

I didn't know everyone associated with making this song and video was deaf and blind.

Because surely if anyone at all had heard this or seen it they wouldn't have put it out. It's the only explanation. And in that case, it's not nice to mock the afflicted.

Rock & Roll City had a slightly different track lineup...I forget which one had an early version of "California Dreamin" on it, but only one and not the other did.

Three dog Night hit rock bottom.  Chuck looks in full addiction here.

I think Mike has three vocal appearances in the whole show.

Also, Mike & Dean's recording of "Alley Oop" appeared exclusively on 'Listen To The Air,' a Japanese only released radio-LP featuring Brian Byrne as host between songs… Dean even gives a "surf report."

If this era is interesting, please look up this edition of ESQ:

I remember seeing this one back in the day, and being amazed that they used that 1982 promo photo, with Brian looking absolutely godawful, and Dennis looking like his jaw was dislocated.
