I have seen a photo of Brian circa 70/71, I believe at the Whiskey a Go Go with the Beach Boys. Is there any video or audio of this anywhere?

Thanks AGD! That makes me sad. I guess nobody around there at the time thought it was anything special enough to record while he was there!

But there is an audio recording of the Feb. 28th 1970 Seattle concert circulating - with Brian substituting for Mike!

there was once audio on youtube of day in the life of a tree being played live when brian was there.  you can hear people in the crowd inging "sing it brian" at one point

Did Brian sing it during the concert or did they get Rieley [sp?] out to do the lead vocals? If the former, that would be extremely interesting to hear...

Brian played keyboards (not at all well) and Jack 'sang' (also, not at all well).

that would be the Long Beach Arena concert, December 3rd 1971.

Did the Beach Boys *ever* have a good show in Long Beach?  Every tape I've ever heard from Long Beach was dreadful.  isn't that where Brian did that fabulously awful version of Don't Worry Baby?

Yeah, the sound quality isn't all that great, but it is an interesting historical document.  I wanted to enjoy the concert, so the recording was made with an inexpensive cassette recorder placed under the seat.

That's your recording?!  Shocked I agree it's very interesting and I'm glad I had a chance to listen to it but I'm not sure I should listen to it with headphones on again.

Honestly, as far as '71 audience recordings go, the Long Beach tape is one of the better ones! Compared to Georgetown University (with every song cut and completely f***ed up sound), Indianapolis (so fucking distant it might as well be 75 minutes of dead air unless turned up to eleven), and Manchester (distorted and distant), Long Beach is hi-fi. It's about as good as the Boston show from the same year, sonically. Maybe I'm more forgiving because I enjoy these crappy audience tapes...
