At the 4:00 mark you hear a voice say "I was asked not to participate." At first I thought it was Brian answering a question to Mike. Then I looked at Bruce and Al. They were urging someone to join them. Sounds like Dave saying that. Who told him not to participate?! Hopefully it was none of the Beach Boys.

If I remember correctly, Dave was asked by someone (a Capitol employee?) to get out of the way for the photo, but the rest of the guys told Dave to join them.  Or something like that.

Yeah there was some idiot Capitol suit who had no clue who David was and asked him to get out of the shot, Dave was just being polite and didn't make a fuss. The other BB's noticed and asked Dave to come back for more photos. Later Dave took the Capitol guy over to the platinum award for Sounds Of Summer which has all the album minis on it, and Dave said, "I'm on that one, and that one, and that one, and that one..." etc... It was actually kind of funny. I think the guy ended up apologizing to Dave...and later Dave got his platinum award too.

Mike had lost some weight by then. Keep in mind that since 2006 he's gained some pounds and overcome back surgery. He still looks good, though.

Just watching that again... Mike's speech is so humble, thanking Brian for giving them an 'amazing life' and being sure to say 'what we all have collectively done'. Great moment after many years of difficulties.

From memory Capitol wanted a 'PS' era band shot so that excluded Dave. Good on Al for saying in effect, screw that!
